Advanced Placement Courses:
All departments English, fine arts, history, languages, mathematics and science offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses that can help a motivated and qualified student prepare for the College Board Advanced Placement Exams. Selection for an Advanced Placement course requires the successful completion of all course prerequisites and is determined by the department.

College Preparation Courses:

We offer college preparation courses including PSAT, SAT and ACT.

Pro Vita Courses for Topics of Interest:

During the last week before spring vacation, Berkshire students, faculty, staff and guest teachers embark on a week-long journey exploring passions and interests.

Students enjoy a break from the regular curriculum and faculty turn their focus to a topic of their interest. With over 90 courses on topics ranging from presidential politics and Northern Ireland to intellectual property law and landscape design, there is always something for everyone during Pro Vita.

Advanced Math/Science Research Program:
Students at Berkshire School have the opportunity to explore mathematics and science in a way that few high school students are able to. In addition to a rigorous selection of AP courses, the students are also able to do higher level mathematics and science research with professional research mentors.

Center for Writing and Critical Thinking:
Berkshire School’s new Center for Writing and Critical Thinking offers students individual assistance with their writing, as well as weekly, form-specific faculty forums, and the opportunity to utilize a space that is exclusively dedicated to writers and to writing.

The John Dewey Academy

Located in Great Barrington, in the Berkshires area of west Massechusetts, The John Dewey Academy is a year-round college preparatory therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens ages 15-21.

Serving Grades 10-12 and Postgraduate students, we provide an individualized and comprehensive education in a non-traditional therapeutic school setting. Our students are bright, troubled adolescents with a history of self-defeating or self-destructive choices.

At The John Dewey Academy, we take our identity as a college preparatory school seriously. With a highly credentialed staff of dedicated and passionate teachers, a small class size (six students on average), and high demands and expectations, we provide a challenging academic experience.

At The John Dewey Academy, adolescents encounter a peer-based community of empowerment, an exciting educational environment, the challenge of real responsibilities, and the realistic promise of acceptance at a college of quality. In such an environment, they can change.
Therapeutic Boarding School for Troubled Teens Ages 15-21 (Grades 10-12 & Postgrad)

- Our minimum length of stay is eighteen months, although most students take 2 to 2½ years to complete the program.

- Students carry a minimum of five courses a semester in the traditional divisions of English, History/Social Science, Math, Science, and Foreign Language.

Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI)
Courses / Programs
Located in northwestern Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI) is an accredited, family-run, therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens (boys and girls) ages 13-18 from New Hampshire and across the United States.

In our beautiful, peaceful, and safe location, we combine the benefits of a therapeutic boarding school, a wilderness program, and a residential treatment center (RTC).

TWAI has been serving struggling teens and their families since 2002, with an exceptional degree of success.

We provide an extremely high standard of therapeutic treatment to our students, and offer help for the following presenting issues: poor academic performance, behavioral problems, addictions, low self-worth, spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and attachment disorders among others.

With a passion for helping young people in crisis, our clinical, educational, and operations staff are among the best in the country.

We are a small program (40 students) which means that we are able to provide a truly unique and customized approach for every student.

Typically our on site student to staff ratio is 5:1. The average stay at our residential treatment center is 12 months.

We create a customized program for each student that requires a minimum of 3 months. However, best results for lasting success are realized through 6+ months of treatment.

TWAI graduates average a 3.5 GPA. It is common for a student to complete 1.5 years of course work in 1 year.

Located in Saxtons River in Windham County VT, Vermont Academy is a private, co-educational, college preparatory school, primarily boarding in nature, for Grades 9-12 and post graduate. We are one hr and thirty minutes from Hartford, CT and two and a half hrs from New York.

Our students are constantly challenged in the classrooms, on the athletic fields, and in the community as a whole. We believe in setting the bar high while also securing a safety net to catch those who fall short of their goals.

It is in the effort of trying that growth is made, and our faculty and staff are devoted to fostering a “try and try again” approach to success. New Hampton School is an independent boarding and day school serving boys and girls in grades 9-12 and at postgraduate level. We are located in the center of the small village of New Hampton, Belknap County, New Hampshire, 100 miles north of Boston.
