Worth School, Turners Hill:
Worth School is a Benedictine (Catholic) independent co-educational day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11-18. The school is situated in Turners Hill, West Sussex, in South East England, only 50 km from London and 12 km from Gatwick Airport. At Worth, we see our pupils as 'Lanterns to Light'. Inspiring pupils to think, learn, create, imagine and perform is crucial if each individual is to develop their intellectual potential. Pupils are not merely taught what they need to know but, much more importantly, how to learn.
Lower School: Years 7 & 8:
Worth has a broad and well-balanced academic curriculum designed to avoid early specialisation. It complies with the National Curriculum but offers more flexibility and choice to ensure Year 7 and 8 students can experience and enjoy a wide variety of subjects.
In Years 7 and 8 students have lessons in Art, English, Drama, French, Geography, History, ICT, Latin, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Religious Studies, Science and Technology.
Middle School: Years 9 to 11
The curriculum in Year 9 follows a similar pattern to that of Years 7 and 8, with some changes: Art, English, Drama, French, Geography, History, ICT, Mathematics, Physical Education, Religious Studies and Technology. The sciences are studied separately so students have lessons in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Spanish can replace French or be studied as an optional second language. Latin and Music also remain as options.
In Years 10 and 11 students undertake the two-year GCSE course in a variety of subjects, usually 10 or 10½ in number.
The core syllabus includes English, French or Spanish, ICT, Mathematics (IGCSE), Religious Studies and the sciences, which can be studied separately or in the Science & Additional Science course which represents two GCSEs. The available options comprise Art, Drama, Economics and Business Studies, Electronics, Geography, History, Latin, Music and Physical Education. We also offer IGCSE English for a small minority of EAL students.
