The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) opened in 1996 to forge a new approach to performing arts training. We offer performing arts classes for 4 - 19 years old in our part-time performing arts academy called LIPA 4:19. We have over 450 students who attend LIPA 4:19 every week and we have been blessed with a huge pool of talent from around the North. Due to its popularity, we opened a new satellite school at Maghull High School in September 2008. providing training in acting, singing and dancing. The arts and entertainment industry needs multi-disciplined all-round performers, and LIPA 4:19 is designed to make you just that. Here you learn to sing, dance and act with fully qualified and enthusiastic tutors, who all have professional experience. All classes are carefully designed to reflect the correct stage of performing arts development for each age group, from young children through to teenagers.

LIPA 4:19 has proved to be a fun and stimulating environment for many youngsters. Through role play and encouragement at LIPA 4:19, many children increase their self confidence and their communication skills. It’s a great place to make new friends and to enjoy tapping into their own imaginations and creativity.

Being based at the world-famous Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, LIPA 4:19 also offers fantastic facilities for the students and a safe and encouraging learning environment.

Examinations:
The exams will be across the boards of Dance/Singing/Acting. The examination syllabuses for Saturday classes will be BTDA medal tests, covering the three disciplines of Dancing, Singing and Acting. Apart from Saturday classes we also run classes during the week and the examination syllabus for these is ISTD.

On Sundays we run ballet classes, the examination syllabus for these is RAd.

The examination process is purely optional but students will be encouraged to take part. The exams will be rewarding to the students, and they will learn to gain confidence when they see their hard work paying off. For students who want to further their career within the Performing Arts, through taking exams, they will be given a head start in life and the experience they will need for the future.

We want our students to gain the best results they can, and students will be given the best preparation and training from our teachers. For new students starting at LIPA 4:19, we like students to have at least two terms of training with our teachers. This is to give students the experience, knowledge, discipline and most of all professional training so they feel confident enough to enter for examinations.

Performances:

Image of Performing Arts School in LiverpoolEvery year at LIPA 4:19 the students get the chance to perform in a large-scale end of year production. This is usually in the professional setting of LIPA’s largest theatre space – the Paul McCartney Auditorium. The students perform a showcase of the hard work that they have produced throughout the year, which shows you just how talented our LIPA 4:19 students are.

The students usually perform their shows over a period of four nights and all performances are filmed so the students, family and friends can purchase their very own DVD. The teaching staff start training the students for their show work towards the end of term two (March), giving the students plenty of time to perfect their material.

Some teachers work in collaboration with other teachers to form pieces of work for the shows, this also gives the students a chance to work amongst other LIPA 4:19 students who are not in the same class as them.
