Lower School - Primary Years Programme (PYP):
Photos of Dwight School LondonThe international content of our curriculum has been consolidated through the introduction of the Primary Years Programme. The PYP's well-balanced inquiry-based methodology is particularly relevant at this stage of a child's development as it allows the individual to build on a strong foundation of basic skills. An integrated topic approach is used that covers all areas of the curriculum - Mathematics, English, French and Spanish, Unit of Inquiry (History, Geography, Science), Music, Art and Physical Education.

Children are encouraged to think creatively and to work both independently and in groups. The need to develop a sense of community and a personal responsibility for oneself and others is an important goal. The Lower School prides itself on its high level of pastoral care and much attention is paid to a student's emotional, physical and social development, as well as their academic progress.

Upper School - Middle Years Programme:

Image of International School in North London, UKThe Upper School provides a forward-looking education as it prepares its students for a rapidly changing and complex world. We offer an exciting and challenging curriculum called the Middle Years Programme (MYP). This curriculum is overseen by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) who maintain the high standards required. The programme is designed to provide a framework to meet a young person’s academic, social, physical and emotional needs.

There is an enquiry based approach to learning with each new topic introduced through a guiding question. A central part of our teaching is the students' acquisition of learning skills (communication, thinking and organisational skills and attitudes) with the aim of enabling them to become independent thinkers and learners. The students are closely engaged in influencing their own learning. All subject grades are criterion referenced and students are always made aware of the assessment criteria.

The school has adopted the best curriculum developments in international education. The programme covers Mathematics, English, Second Languages (French, Spanish, Mandarin), Physical Education, the Sciences, Individuals & Society (History, Geography, Politics, Economics) Performing and Visual Arts, and Design Technology. Although subjects are taught as separate disciplines, our programme of work stresses the interrelatedness of the various subjects.

This is facilitated through interdisciplinary days and the use of linking concepts called the Areas of Interaction. The diversity and depth of the subjects covered facilitates transfer to other schools anywhere in the world at any time. We expect our students to leave us as life-long learners and critical thinkers. Students are also required to undertake community service, a personal project and to gain an awareness of global and cultural issues.

Upper School - International Baccalaureate Diploma:
Picture of International School in North London, UKBetween the ages of 16 and 18 years, students study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, the prestigious international qualification taken by thousands of students across the continents.
