Infants:
The Infant Department has three classes and is also affiliated to Baby Unicorns at Cherry Hinton Hall. Caspian Class (National Curriculum Reception, age 4-5) Coral Class (National Curriculum Year 1, age 5-6) Caribbean Class (National Curriculum Year 1, age 6-7) We have on average 12 children in our classes with a teacher and an assistant. We firmly believe that children will learn when they are ready and when they are in the right environment. We do not introduce formal academic work too early, believing that children really do learn a great deal through play, through using their imagination, learning to share and play happily with their classmates at Nursery and Reception level. The level of achievement our children reach is very impressive.

Juniors:

Junior children are taught how to recognise choPhoto of Private Prep School in Cambridge, UKice, use and effect of figurative language, vocabulary and patterns of language, broadening their own vocabulary and using it in their writing. Children will participate in a variety of plays including mime and choral work to explore characters and issues within myths.

In Mathematics, we are looking at fractions and decimals. The children have learned to find fractions of numbers and quantities, equivalence, conversion of mixed numbers to improper fractions and vice versa, addition, subtraction and multiplication of fractions.

The children will also work on percentages, decimals and cover work on ratio and proportion. The children will also work extensively on shape, space and measures as well as data handling. We will have a regular focus on tackling word problems. I am particularly interested in the kinaesthetic teaching of maths and will be trying to incorporate this in lessons. Decimal karate and rugby with fractions are two of my firm intentions.

Seniors:

The Senior School is a really happy place. We have five classes with approximately 14 children in each year. Although there is some flexibility in age range in each class it is generally the case that children are placed in their cImage of Private Prep School in Cambridge, UKorrect chronological year group. In exceptional cases, children are put up a year and close attention is paid to how well these students fit in socially. We have two sites, the new Jill Sturdy Centre (JSC)at 5 Glisson Road, and our main site at Cherry Hinton Hall. Upper School students use both sites, enjoying the spacious art room at the JSC and modern laboratory while also getting great pleasure from the beautiful grounds and family feel of Cherry Hinton Hall.

Subjects include English, maths, science, history, geography, French, Spanish, art, Business Enterprise, filming and sport.

Sport:
The adjacent, marked off sports pitch allows our pupils to continue to take part in a good variety of outdoor sports and a programme of competitive events against the local schools is being organised.
