Boarding Life at Dulwich:

Photo of Private Boarding School in London, UK for Boys- Deciding to send your son to boarding school is a big step to take and as a parent you need to be reassured that he will be well cared for and happy, both at school and in a new social environment.

- There are three boarding houses at Dulwich, all close to the campus. Each house has a housemaster who is resident with his family. They are supported by a team of House Tutors, some of whom also live on the campus.

- Younger boys (aged up to sixteen) live in Orchard House, sharing small comfortable study-bedrooms. Boys in the Upper School live in Blew House and Ivyholme where each boy has his own room with en-suite facilities.

- All meals are taken together in the Boarders' Dining Room and in addition there are kitchen facilities for the boys in all three boarding houses. One of the benefits of boarding at Dulwich is the provision of close monitoring of a pupil's academic progress by the Housemaster acting in 'loco parentis'.

- The College offers both weekly (Monday to Friday) and full boarding and at present there are about one hundred and twenty boys living on campus. Boarding at Dulwich is truly international, with boys coming from all over the world, and this adds to a cultural atmosphere of tolerance and intellectual curiosity. We also cater for the busy London parents who like to have their sons home at the weekends.

Extracurricular Activities:

Sport is an integral part of life at Dulwich College.
Amongst the 60 acres of playing fields are two full size and one practice Astroturf pitch, a synthetic athletics track, 12 rugby pitches, 10 football pitches, 10 cricket squares, 8 Astroturf nets and 9 all-weather tennis courts. There is also a large, fully equipped PE centre which houses a 25 metre 6-lane swimming pool, two fitness suites, a sports hall with room for 8 badminton courts and an air-conditioned exercise studio.

The sporting aim of Dulwich College is to provide a breadth of experience in an environment in which all boys have an opportunity to reach their potential whilst striving for excellence. While at the College boys can experience 24 different sports and it is hoped they will find at least one they can continue into adulthood.

Career Guidance:

- The College’s Careers Department has a fully resourced library (CLCI accredited) where boys and their parents can consult the dedicated staff who are always available for help and advice.

- This comprehensive careers education and guidance is supplemented by a wide range of careers activities and events. The educational aspect is taught through PSHE in the Middle School and through form tutorials in the Upper School. The guidance aspect is provided on an individual basis to each pupil and is therefore tailor-made for every very different boy and his respective aspirations.

- The Department is supported by and kept up to date through contacts with hundreds of graduate employers and most of the key professional institutes. Many of these contacts also, very kindly, host pupils for individual visits, work placements and over 70 firms advise Dulwich of their gap year employment opportunities. Others are keen to participate in events arranged at the College, both for careers and within curriculum subject areas. The Department works closely with all staff within the College and enjoys the support of a team of careers prefects.
