Silicon Valley Tech Academy, California:
Tech Academy of Silicon Valley based in San Jose, California organises Summer programs designed to help students in middle and high school to explore and improve the skills needed to pursue college level work in engineering, technology and science. Program emphases are on teamwork, innovative problem solving and project-based 'learning by doing´ with emphasis on Energy, Water, Environment, Space and High Tech. Courses are held at San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, Morgan Hill, CSU at Hayward and Alsion in Fremont. Introduction to Energy, Water, High Tech and Space for 6—8 graders:
Experienced teachers will provide course instruction, with support from industry professionals, college faculty and students. Problem-solving techniques and hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’ learning.

Students who complete this program will receive a certificate and, based on their regular academic performance, will be invited to attend the Summer Engineering and Technology Academy for advanced students. Students desiring to be considered for the program must be enrolled in middle school in grades 6, 7 or 8 for fall 2009, and must also receive a recommendation from their math or science teacher.

Each class, will be limited to 25 students and will run threePhoto of Summer Camps in the Bay Area, California hours, starting at either 9 AM or 1 PM, Monday through Friday. Sessions will be held at five different sites: San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill, California State University-East Bay and Alsion Montessori School in Fremont.

Robotics Technology, Signature Analysis, RFID for 9—12 graders & Intro graduates:

Advanced course: Robot structure & electronic control, Signal Analysis & design a Radio Frequency Identification chip (RFID)

Students will learn about robot structures and electronic control, then design and build a small Image of Summer Camps in the Bay Area, Californiascale robotic device to accomplish a task. In Signal Analysis, students learn how to recognize sounds, based on frequency analysis. The Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) module introduces students to a technology with ubiquitous applications and leads them to design their own RFID application.

Experienced engineers will provide course instruction, with support from industry professionals, college faculty and students. Problem-solving techniques and hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’ understanding and learning.

The emphasis of this program is on teamwork, innovative problem solving, creative project-based learning — learning by doing. The objective is to develop student's confidence and leadership skills by involvement in participating project-base learning.

Fuel Cell Technology and Fuel Cell Car for 9—12 graders & Intro graduates:

Build/test hydrogen fuel cells, power a Fuel Cell model car.

This laboratory course revolves around the hydrogen fuel cell, with students building, testing, and using the cells to power a model car. This is space program technology converted to simple alternative-energy application here on Earth.

Solar Cell Fabrication and Systems for 9—12 graders & Intro graduates:
Make individual solar cells and link them in an electrical system

Students can stake a place, as solar technology evolves, to begin learning about the conversion of photon power to electron power. Students will build solar cell systems, and classify them, in order to design solar cell systems to meet a variety of application specifications.

Experienced engineers will provide course instruction, with support from industry professionals, college faculty and students. Problem-solving techniques and hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’ understanding and learning.

The emphasis of this program is on teamwork, innovative problem solving, creative project-based learning — learning by doing. The objective is to develop student's confidence and leadership skills by involvement in participating project-base learning.

Introduction to Green Energy (NEW) for 9—12 graders & Intro graduates:
Students will learn the efficient use of energy, beginning with the “carbon footprints” of different energy sources. Then they will design systems for the most efficient use of these energy sources.

Experienced engineers will provide course instruction, with support from industry professionals, college faculty and students. Problem-solving techniques and hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’ understanding and learning.

Introduction to Mars Exploration (NEW) for 9—12 graders & Intro graduates:

The emphasis of this program is on teamwork, innovative problem solving, creative project-based learning — learning by doing. The objective is to develop student's confidence and leadership skills by involvement in participating project-base learning.

All students who completed the 2008 Summer Academy are eligible for this program. In addition, selected 9th and 12th grade students will be admitted. New students will require recommendation from their math or science teacher.
