Academy by the Sea/Camp Pacific:
Academy by the Sea/Camp Pacific, located in Carlsbad, north of San Diego, California, is an ACA-Accredited Camp offering enriching academic and recreational summer programs for boys and girls ages 7-17. During their stay, all students and campers receive specialized instruction in their areas of interest. While mornings are dedicated to educational classes and clinics, afternoons are devoted to the pursuit of recreational activities, allowing students and campers to experience a variety of options. Operating as a college-preparatory boarding school for boys during the academic year, summer sees the campus transformed into a co-educational environment hosting a unique mix of students from all over the U.S. and the world.

The Academy by the Sea/ Camp Pacific programming is designed to enrich each participant’s character through academic pursuits and recreational activities.

Campus Life & Facilities:

Photo of Summer Camp for Kids & Teens in San Diego County, CASummer program participants share double and triple room dormitories and cottages during their stay with us. Dormitory living allows students and campers to experience life away from home while building friendships with peers, counselors, and teachers. Boys and girls are housed in separate dormitory areas in rooms furnished with beds, closets, and desks. Residents also enjoy 3 well-balanced meals a day in our fully equipped dining hall. During all activities the campus is monitored by supervisory resident staff. Constant adult supervision is essential to developing an atmosphere of learning and safety.

Enhanced by its coastal location, Academy by the Sea/Camp Pacific facilities include: seven resident buildings, a library, computer lab, recreation hall, heated swimming pool, tennis courts, beach front recreation center, weight room, gymnasium, chapel, bookstore, canteen, campus store, health center, athletic fields, dining services, and fully equipped classrooms and dormitories. Security and medical personnel are on campus twenty-four hours a day.

Program yoUr Future (PUF) is a non-profit outreach program that aims to raise greater awareness for women in technology by complimenting San Francsico Bay Area middle school girls’ education with programming basics using AppInventor and Scratch, networking skills, and fieldtrips to local museums or tech companies.

We provide Saturday workshops and summer camps to introduce girls in 7th or 8th grade to computing, information technology, and careers in IT. Programs are hosted in high-tech and top research sites, including the International Computer Science Institute and the University of California Berkeley.

PUF will also cover topics such as How to Write a Resume, STEM Year-long Opportunities, and High School Success & Leadership. In addition, participants will interact with and learn from IT and STEM mentors and key note speakers AND participate in mock interviews.

Through fun CS-related hands-on activities, they will not only have the opportunity to explore interdisciplinary applications and acquire presentation skills but will also be able to keep their creation as a souvenir! The participants are also challenged to identify a social issue or problem and design a solution integrating the use of information technology.

No programming experience or prior computer science knowledge is necessary to participate. The girls will form a strong community and enduring friendships. Students will also have the opportunity to receive prizes and scholarship money.
