Our Lady of Lourdes School:
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Catholic Elementary School in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Virginia. It serves students from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth grade, with a school population of approximately 400. There are two classes of each grade from K - 8th, with 20 to 25 students in each class. In addition to academic instruction, students also participate in music, art, physical education, computer technology, and library, with Spanish language instruction for the 2nd through the 8th grades.
Pre-K - 8th Grade Programs:
Pre-K:
Our Lady of Lourdes Pre-Kindergarten program strives to assist the young child with developmental and socialization skills. The focus of the program is basic readiness for school. This readiness includes the development of fine/gross motor skills, language, and creativity. Religious instruction is a part of each day's activities.
Primary (K-2):
At this level, the importance is placed on basics. Religious instruction is a part of each day's activities. Teachers emphasize basic reading and math skills throughout the curriculum.
Elementary (3-5):
The students are assisted in developing their faith life through formal religion classes, daily prayer, and service activities.
Middle (6-8):
The middle school Religion Program continues to reinforce the doctrines of the faith, the importance of the development of a prayer life, and the necessity of reaching out to others in service activities. The students are introduced to block scheduling which allows more flexibility in meeting the needs of the middle school student.
Accelerated Reader Program:
Students in grades kindergarten, one, two, three, four and five participate in the Accelerated Reader Program, which encourages reading for pleasure. Each book is accompanied by a computer-generated test. Students receive points for tests passed.
Before and After School Program:
Our Lady of Lourdes before and after school program is open to our students on all days that the school is in session. Morning "BASIC" care is available from 7:00 A.M. until 7:45 A.M., while afternoon "BASIC" begins at 3:00 P.M. and closes at 6:00 P.M.
Athletics:
Our Lady of Lourdes School provides regular physical education classes for all students. In addition to this, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Athletic Association provides opportunities for participation in several athletic areas.
