Academics:
Storm King’s academic program develops more than our students’ knowledge within academic disciplines. Our curriculum is rooted in excellence and character development. It is generated through all aspects of student life at Storm King.

While preparing our charges for college, we build habits, attitudes and traits to help shape our students to be excellent students as well as fully responsible and engaged citizens of the community.

All classes are college preparatory in nature. We offer a range of Honors and AP classes in all areas. Creativity is both valued and developed at Storm King, and we offer a range of courses in visual, performing, creative and theatrical arts.

We also offer programs to support specific student learning needs through our English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, and our Mountain Center Program and Learning Center.

Freedom Village USA is a residential home for troubled teens and young adults (ages 14-21) situated in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of western Central New York.

Our boys and girls commit to a year in the program, where they find love and encouragement from experienced staff, a self-paced academic curriculum to prepare them for the future, and myriad opportunities to learn, grow and give back.

Many of our students have been involved in drug and alcohol abuse, have attempted suicide, or lived in abusive home situations including physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Some have turned to lives of crime after their families and society abandoned them.

The Astor Learning Center (ALC), Upstate NY

Located in Rhinebeck in Upstate New York, The Astor Learning Center (ALC) is a therapeutic boarding school for boys and girls ages 5-13 with serious behavioral and emotional difficulties. Our residential programs are designed to provide a nurturing environment for children who must live away from their families while they receive treatment.

Established in 1980, ALC has been named three times as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Our students benefit from small class sizes (6-8 students) in a nurturing environment conducive to learning. We aim to help children who have often experienced failure in school to finally succeed.

In our Residential Treatment programs, we treat a wide range of behavioral and mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and fire setting behaviors.

At ALC, we welcome children from throughout New York State. Some of our students come from as far as Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk Co.), Albany, and many other areas of NY.
