The Storm King School is a global community. Students come to this campus from many different countries, to learn about themselves and each other. We're a residential school, so the learning goes on 24/7… in the classroom, on the playing fields and in the dorms.

Students are teachers as well as learners. This is one of the ways SKS is different from other schools. Teaching and learning… they go hand in hand. This isn't a place to sit back and watch. It's a place to contribute actively, to take some risks, to stretch yourself. How else can you achieve your goals?

Life at The Storm King School:

Photo of College Prep Boarding School in New YorkFor nearly 150 years, The Storm King School has been a thriving community of scholars, athletes, and artists. With our core values of truth, respect, and responsibility, we strive to bring out the very best in each of our students, both in and out of the classroom.

Our focus at SKS is on individual development, and our programs are designed to facilitate that development. We believe that students learn best in a supportive and safe environment, and we challenge our students every day to continue to improve.

To give our students the confidence they need to reach their potential, we are committed to a healthy, structured, diverse environment that encourages self-discipline and fosters self-esteem. We offer various clubs, activities, leadership opportunities, and special events unique to SKS.

Our proximity to New York City gives students the ability to see broadway shows, visit world-class museums, and learn about business strategies on Wall Street. Our proximity to the Black Rock Forest (the adjacent 3,600 acre wilderness) allows students to explore science with a hands on approach.

Our observatory with a Newtonian telescope allows students to explore astronomy. These are only a few of the highlights that The Storm King School offers.

Athletics and Outdoor Education:

Image of College Prep Boarding School in New YorkThe Storm King School takes great pride in our athletic programs. Character development is at the heart of the athletic program at Storm King where we emphasize grit and gumption.

The Storm King School offers students the opportunity to compete in 18 different sports and activities (including sailing and mountain biking), fielding teams at the varsity, junior varsity, and club level. Whether a student is working toward playing a sport at the collegiate level or has never participated in sports of any kind, our athletic program has an offering.

We strongly believe in the value of Outdoor Education. Our hope is that during their time at SKS, students develop a life-long appreciation for wilderness and the importance of a sustainable lifestyle. Events range from leisurely walks in the woods, all-day rock climbing trips, mountain biking expeditions, and camping.

The Mountaineers boat-building program produces a beautiful cedar-strip canoe that gets auctioned off at the end of each school year.

Future service expeditions include trips to the Dominican Republic and Tanzania (Mt. Kilimanjaro).
