Art Encounters, Melbourne: Art Encounters in Elsternwick, Melbourne is the perfect place to explore your creativity and learn how to make art. Art Encounters was established in 1998 to provide the community with a school where people could rekindle and awaken their creative expression and desire to make art.
The focus of Art Encounters adult courses and programs is to engage students in the creative process while teaching solid skills in drawing and painting. We run courses for absolute beginners over 8 week periods, one year single unit programs and a part time internal folio preparation course as well as an Art History and Visiting Artists lecture program. Our class numbers are limited to a maximum of 12 students. We keep our class numbers small so that each student receives adequate attention.
Art Classes for Adults:
Drawing and Painting for Beginners An 8 week introductory course that explores a series of basic exercises and explorations of approaches and materials. Art Encounters' signature course for the absolute beginner introduces students to the processes and techniques necessary to develop works of art. This course will give students a solid idea of both where their interests and where their strengths lie. Students will experience a series of drawing projects and painting exercises while deepening their understanding of materials and approaches in drawing and painting. The course is taught by a variety of Art Encounters teachers exposing students to the different personalities and approaches of a variety of artists. Students are introduced to materials including charcoal, pencil, watercolour and acrylic paint and work from a combination of still life, life drawing and experiential sources. All materials are included in the cost of the term fee enabling students to explore this interested before spending money on art equipment.
Art Discovery Level One This weekly course offers students the opportunity to develop solid skills in drawing, painting and self expression. Ideal for beginners who want to see results in their development. This is the one year ongoing version of our signature 8-week beginners drawing and painting course which is suitable for beginners and intermediate students. Unlike the 8 week program, students will investigate processes and techniques over longer periods. Excellent for students who are able to continue from term to term and as a follow on to the 8 week course.
