WAAPA has an international reputation for excellence in arts education and training, offering Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor degree courses across a variety of disciplines including:
- Aboriginal Theatre
Aboriginal Theatre studies primary objective is to nuture the performance potential of aspiring indigenous artists. Students have the opportunity to investigate, nurture and develop indigenous performance skills through self-devised and collaborative work.
- Acting
The Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts (Acting) program prepares professional actors for theatre, film and television. The program is principally structured around learning experiences in the four areas of acting, voice, movement and text, supplemented by a variety of other supporting units. Productions are a fundamental component of the course, integrating the experiences obtained through the remainder of the program in an atmosphere of openness and professional acuity. Selected students may opt to enrol in a specialised stream in directing.
- Arts Management
The Arts Manager takes their passion for the arts, combines it with outstanding organisational, people and business skills… and then makes it happen.
There are currently 5 associated courses for this area: Bachelor of Arts (Arts Management); Bachelor of Arts (Arts Management) Honours; Graduate Certificate in Arts Management; Graduate Diploma in Arts Management; Professional Masters of Arts Management
- Broadcasting
Broadcasting is a post graduate degree that looks at technical and presentation skills in a broadcast media setting. Designed for graduates in journalism, media, communications as well as other disciplines or individuals with relevant industry experience who wish to use their specialist knowledge in a media setting.
- Dance (Contemporary & Classical)
Dancers from around Australia audition to be part of WAAPA's intensive, rewarding and highly specialised program where students have the opportunity to cross core studies in ballet and contemporary techniques with alternative disciplines such as yoga, aerial circus skills and martial arts. Under the guidance of teaching staff unsurpassed in Australia, choreographic pursuits and creative development are nurtured alongside more pragmatic skills, the multiple strands merging together in performance where skill and physicalised thought become an exhilarating whole.
- Music (Jazz, Classical, Composition, Contemporary and Creative Technology)
The world of music is ever changing, whether teaching, recording or performing, musicians must not only stay ahead, but create and innovate. WAAPA is committed to developing the talents of the well-rounded musician. The calibre of teaching staff and the innovative, infusive approach and flexibility in course structure across a range of styles and genres is unique to the WAAPA music student. Add in over 200 public performances every year, giving our graduates an unsurpassed opportunity to utilise their talent in a diversity of settings.
- Music Theatre
The Academy prides itself on developing music theatre artists who are already consummate professionals, skilled in dancing, singing, acting and able to cope with an intensive schedule of rehearsals and a life time of opening nights even before embarking on a professional career.
