Warmed by Pacific Ocean currents and protected by a range of mountains, Vancouver enjoys mild temperatures year-round. Winters are wet, but it rarely snows, except on local ski hills.

Unlike many cities in North America, Vancouver has no highways cutting through it, making it possible to walk almost anywhere. The city also boasts an outstanding public transportation system that features buses, SkyTrain, SeaBus and a commuter rail service.
