The primary educational objective of the Business Administration program at Fairleigh Dickinson University is to facilitate, in its students, the development of competencies that are necessary to skillfully plan, organize, direct, and manage the functions and processes within a firm or organization. Graduates of this program will possess both the educational knowledge and business acumen necessary to assume positions of responsibility in a global business community characterized by rapid technological and social change, and/or pursue graduate level study in business or a related field.

Students in the B.S. in Business Administration program must complete a minimum of 130 credit hours of course work. Of the 130 credit hours, 12 will be in the University’s required and nationally recognized University Core curriculum, 31 in the liberal arts, 63 in the College’s business management foundation, 12 in the concentration requirements for international business, and 12 in the concentrationImage of University Degree Courses in Vancouver, Canada requirements for the second concentration area selected by all students (in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, information technology, or marketing).

The overarching goal of the program is to prepare students as “information technologists” and professionals who can assist general users, including individuals and organizations, in evaluating needs and solving problems related to information technology (IT), as well as in applying IT effectively in a global work environment driven by rapidly changing technology.

The primary educational objective of the program is produce graduates who can enter into and advance in the professions of IT, management information systems, and business administration, as well as continue their education and obtain advanced degrees in these and related fields. With regard to program outcomes, graduates must be able to evaluate current and emerging technologies; identify user needs; design user-friendly interfaces; apply, configure, and manage these technologies; assess their impacts on individuals, organizations, and the environment; and apply fundamental business concepts and strategies.

The IT Core Requirements provide students with a broad, integrated education in selected IT areas such as computer networking, computer-based systems, Web site development and management, digital media publishing, databases, and application development. The concentration in business administration provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed in the field of business administration. Students also obtain a well-rounded education from the requirements in the Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Programming.

Pre-University Program

The FDU-Vancouver “pre-university program” provides advanced English-language training for students who meet the University’s admission standards but require additional training in English (in speaking and/or writing) prior to matriculating in one of the two degree programs above.

Conveniently located in Edmonton, The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology provides a quality 2-year Captioning and Court Reporting diploma program. Captioners and court reporters are highly skilled professionals who can capture speech at speeds of 225 words per minute (wpm) and higher. Using an electronic shorthand machine and sophisticated computer technology, reporters translate a conversation virtually simultaneously to the printed word.

NAIT offers the only Captioning and Court Reporting program in western Canada approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) - a 35,000 member organization based in the United States. Graduates may broadcast caption live television an internet programming, write court trials and other legal proceedings, or provide CART services writing realtime in educational, corporate, or community settings.

Using electronic shorthand machines and sophisticated computer technology, students in our program learn to write and translate the spoken word simultaneously to the printed word at speeds of 225 words per minute and higher. Practical training is scheduled when the student has completed the 180 wpm speed level. Students will attend civil, criminal, and other proceedings with certified court reporters. They must exhibit professional conduct in the working environment and demonstrate mastery of verbatim shorthand reporting.
