Accommodation:

Concordia students have two options for housing accommodations — they can either live in Residence, or find off-campus housing.

Residence
Concordia University offers housing for first-time, first-year students who meet specific criteria. Housing is available at both the Sir George Williams campus and the Loyola campus.

Hingston Hall serves the Loyola campus with living accommodations for approximately 141 residents in traditional dormitory-style housing with common washrooms. Also at Loyola is the Jesuit Residence, which offers 49 individual rooms each with a private washroom.

Downtown at the Sir George Williams Campus students have the option of living in the Grey Nuns facility. Located just off Saint Mathieu Street, part of the Grey Nuns Motherhouse was converted for use as university housing in 2007. The co-ed facility provides housing for 219 students in single and double rooms with shared common washrooms.

Campus Residence is a convenient way to live right near classes on either campus. Students will find a welcoming, accepting community which supports the academic and personal development of all residents. Housing space is limited and all applicants must be of first-year standing, ages 17-22, and live further than 50 km from Montreal.

Off-campus housing

If most of your classes are downtown, or you're an older student, or you simply prefer choosing your own type of living accommodations, then the off-campus option may be best for you. The Concordia Student Union (CSU) maintains an off-campus housing bank. In general, apartments can be found close to both Concordia campuses (NDG and around Guy St. downtown, or in areas nearby).

Facilities:

Concordia Libraries offers a wealth of information, both in print and in electronic formats. CLUES, the library catalogue, provides access to collections of books, periodicals, electronic resources, audio-visual material and more. Students can also choose from an extensive list of online databases and e-journals to find references to, as well as full-text versions of articles, reports and statistical data in a variety of subject areas. Most electronic services are available both in the libraries and from home.

Students can obtain research assistance from librarians in finding information for assignments by enquiring in person, by telephone, by e-mail or through online chat. Students may also consult subject librarians for one-on-one help with their research. General library workshops are offered each term and can help students develop and improve research skills needed to succeed in using the library effectively.

Computing Services

Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS) provides infrastructural services in the areas of computing, voice and data communications, systems, instructional technology and media development. Developed by IITS, the student/faculty portal is an online Web tool that allows students to get an e-mail account, register for courses, and view personalized class schedules, billing and account information, student records, current grades, examination schedules and information regarding loans and bursaries. New features are continually being added.

The Concordia wireless network service is designed to provide access into the Concordia network from classrooms, both libraries (Vanier and Webster), and public areas on both campuses. Common uses for the wireless network include academic research, viewing course Web sites, and casual computing (such as checking e-mails). There are over 150 access points set up throughout both campuses.

Location:

Photos of Concordia University, MontrealThe university's two campuses are set approximately 7 km apart: Sir George Williams campus in the downtown core of Montreal, and Loyola campus in the residential west-end of Montreal.

Sir George Williams Campus, located in the heart of Montreal, is within walking distance to movie theatres, shops, the underground city, and public transportation. It is an urban campus, having developed around an existing downtown core. The visual arts, the John Molson School of Business, and Engineering and Computer Science are housed downtown, as well as many Arts and Science programs.

The west-end campus, Loyola, is located 7 km away in a leafy residential neighbourhood, with gothic-style buildings that date to the early-20th century. The performing arts and Communication Studies and Journalism are housed exclusively at Loyola, and many other programs, including the sciences in a state-of-the-art building, offer courses on this campus as well. Some student residences are to be found at Loyola, as well as the Oscar Peterson Concert Hall, a theatre and a chapel.
