Day & Boarding Programs for Students in Grades 9-12 and Postgraduate Year:
Vermont Academy’s rigorous academic curriculum is conceptually-based and linked to real world situations. Through process learning, teachers guide students on their journey of gathering knowledge. They demonstrate this knowledge through class participation, writing, projects and presentations, as well as tests and quizzes. Practical applications of the subject matter provide meaniPhoto of Private Boarding High School in Vermontngful work and, in many cases, career opportunities.

Students learn the skills for oral and written expression, critical thinking and analysis, active listening, and the cultivation of good instincts--intellectual, creative, athletic, and social.

Key academic subjects include English, math, science, social studies, foreign languages, athletics, visual and performing arts.

The Arts:
At Vermont Academy the variety of courses, small class size, and individual attention provide an excellent environment for students to discover their own creative talents. Whether art is your passion--or even if you've never held a paintbrush--you'll find our classes fun, challenging, and rewarding.

Our eight arts faculty members provide various fields of study and discipline, and it is their hope that each student will embrace the arts as a life-long interest. Our beautiful rural campus provides endless inspiration and plenty of space for private work and contemplation.

College Preparation Courses:
We offer students test preparation courses for SAT, ACT.

Advanced Placement Courses:
For highly motivated students, advance level classes are offered in art history, biology, calculus AB and BC, economics, environmental science, physics B and C
Spanish 5 and U.S. history, as well as independent study in the senior year. AP tutorials and test preparation are available in any subject we offer.

English as a Second Language:
We give an English placement test in order to select the proper level of English class for that year. Students can study English at the intermediate ESL level, the advanced level (which is called English for International Students) or at the mainstream English level.

Learning Skills Program:
For students having difficulties in certain subjects we have a learning skills program available. Participants represent a diveImage of Private Boarding High School in Vermontrse cross-section of our community. Some students were identified during the application process as needing Learning Skills, based on cognitive and achievement testing results and/or historical background provided by the family. Others have been referred by their classroom teachers, advisors, Academic Dean, parents, or are self-referred.

Students remain in the Learning Skills program until it is determined that they are ready to perform independently, which is anywhere from one semester to four years. There is no stigma about participating in Learning Skills, and many students are highly motivated and in advanced level classes.

Off-Campus Programs:
We are pleased to organise trips around the U.S. and abroad.
