Maur Hill-Mount Academy is a Catholic, college preparatory boarding and day school located in Atchison County, northeast Kansas. Maur Hill-Mount Academy educates young men and women in Grades 9-12 in the Benedictine tradition of prayer, work, and love of learning. Academics:

Maur Hill - Mount Academy recognizes the importance of math and science, and we are investing our resources into these areas so that students will be appropriately challenged and adequately prepared for the global society in which we live.

English:

This course focuses on the study of writing, vocabulary, literature analysis, inquiry, and research. The writing program focuses on developing inquiry questions, forming thesis statements, implement research techniques, and writing synthesis essays in MLA format.

The literature program includes the study of fiction and non-fiction essays, short stories, poetry, plays, and novels. A concentration on making schematic connections betweentext, world, and life are emphasized.

Business:
This course is organized around major business issues and the units serve as introductions to major themes and present information to help bring the real world of business to life.

American History:

This course will cover the events that have helped build our country since 1865. The first semester will cover Reconstruction, expansionism, industrialization, immigration, Progressive Era and World War I.

The second semester will cover the Roaring 20’s, Great Depression, World War II, Korean Conflict, Cold War, Civil Rights, Vietnam and the Reagan Years. At the end of the year students should have a greater understanding of important events and decisions that have shaped this great nation.

Math Concepts:

This course will cover the standards on the Kansas Mathematics Assessment Test. This class is a required course for those students who did not attain a passing score on the Kansas Math Assessment their sophomore year.

Topics included in this course are properties of real numbers, estimation, solving real world problems using formulae and percents, linear equations and inequalities, systems of linear equation and inequalities, linear functions, the Pythagorean Theorem, impact of transformations, probability and odds, measures of central tendency, and data analysis.

Biology:

Biology provides a thorough investigation of the basic fundamentals of living organisms. The study of microbial, unicellular, parasitic, and multi-cellular organisms to include cellular structure and function, ecology, botany, biochemistry, genetics, anatomy and physiology of specific organisms, and biotic classifications will be developed within this course.

Study in all areas emphasizes the relationship between structure and function, biotic and a biotic factors, along with an emphasis on a systematic approach to scientific problem solving.

Fine Arts:
This department includes vocal, instrumental, visual and performing arts.

Photography:

Students wilImage of Day & Boarding High School in Kansasl be introduced to modern and traditional methods and techniques used in graphic design and photography. In the graphic arts, students will learn the basics of typography, layout and computer based graphic software applications.

Physical Education:

This class is intended to equip the students with the knowledge and an ability to keep his/hers own body physically fit. The student also develops an increased capacity for body control and endurance.

The students are instructed in the necessary rules and physical skills needed to participate in individual, dual and team sports in a wide variety of activities. Examples: Soccer, Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Weight Training, Running, Conditioning, Jump Rope, Flexibility, etc., just to name a few.

ACT and SAT Prep:

This course is a four part course reviewing math, science, English and reading concepts.

The course is designed to better prepare students to take the ACT or SAT. Topics frommathematics will include a review of pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, plane geometry, coordinate geometry, and trigonometry.

Located in northwestern Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI) is an accredited, family-run, therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens (boys and girls) ages 13-18 from Colorado and across the United States.

In our beautiful, peaceful, and safe location, we combine the benefits of a therapeutic boarding school, a wilderness program, and a residential treatment center (RTC).

TWAI has been serving struggling teens and their families since 2002, with an exceptional degree of success.

We provide an extremely high standard of therapeutic treatment to our students, and offer help for the following presenting issues: poor academic performance, behavioral problems, addictions, low self-worth, spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and attachment disorders among others.

We create a customized program for each student that requires a minimum of 3 months. However, best results for lasting success are realized through 6+ months of treatment.

TWAI graduates average a 3.5 GPA. It is common for a student to complete 1.5 years of course work in 1 year.

Change Academy Lake of the Ozarks (CALO), located in Lake Ozark, Missouri, is a specialized adolescent residential treatment setting for boys & girls (ages 12-18). At CALO, we with work a small window of student issues focusing specifically on issues of emotion, attachment and trauma.

At CALO, relationships are the primary change agent. All treatment is connected to and motivated by relationships. Relationships with family, CALO staff, and CALO peers are what drive change.

Transferable Attachment through the care of purebred Golden Retrievers is a key, cutting-edge treatment aspect of our program. Where clinically appropriate, students have the opportunity to “foster and/or adopt” a Golden Retriever. All interactions with this canine are used therapeutically.

CALO is accredited by the Joint Commission through their Behavioral Healthcare Accreditation Program. and licensed by the Missouri Department of Social Services, Children's Division as a residential provider.

Located on 200 acres in Independence (14 miles East of Kansas City), Missouri, Shelterwood is a licensed residential teen treatment facility offering individual, group, and family therapy along with an accredited school and mentorship program.

Our program for teens is a year-long journey which fosters dynamic academic growth through small class sizes, small group discussions, and qualified teachers.

Situated in Oklahoma City, The Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) is a prestigious two-year residential high school (Grades 11 & 12) designed to educate academically gifted high school students in advanced mathematics and science.

OSSM was created through legislative action in 1983 and graduated its first class of 44 seniors from across the state in 1992. The school currently has 71 juniors, 63 seniors and an ultimate enrollment estimated at 300.

OSSM is located on a 32-acre campus in Oklahoma City, just south of the State capital and across from the medical and research facilities of the Oklahoma Health Center. Nebraska Christian School (NCS) is an inter-denominational, Christian boarding and day school located west of Omaha in Central City, Merrick County, Nebraska.
