Contact Our School

Nelson-Mandela-Schule:
Nelson Mandela School is an international comprehensive school in Berlin, providing quality bilingual education in grades 1-13 to children from a wide variety of backgrounds. We have two locations in Berlin, both are centrally located in the inner-city boroughs of Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf: Our primary campus is located on Pfalzburger Street (Wilmersdorf) and our secondary campus is located at Kastanienallee (Charlottenburg). English and German are our school’s official languages, but we do not stop at introducing our students just to German and Anglo-American values and traditions. As a truly international school, it is our business to acquaint our students with as many different aspects of life as possible.

About Us:

The Nelson Mandela School was founded in 2000 by the state government of Berlin. It is a member of UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project, the European Council of International Schools and the International Baccalaureate Organisation. It enrols students from year 1 through years 12/13.

At the end of year 10, Nelson Mandela students qualify for the various German lower secondary school-leaving certificates. Students attending our upper secondary section can either graduate with a bilingual German-English Abitur, which can be completed in two or three years, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB).

As a community-oriented school, we also co-operate intensively with a large number of local partners beyond the school gates here in Berlin – thinking globally and acting locally. Within our school, we foster the idea of the school community wherever we can.

The school’s staff is just as diverse. Teachers from Australia, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Jamaica, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States teach at the school. Many of them also have a long personal history of expatriate work in other countries worldwide. Those experiences enrich our teaching even further.

Extra-Curricular Activities:

Our extra-curricular activities are designed to be engaging, activity focused, and most of all, something different than what is offered in the regular classroom.

- In the primary school, internal workshops and external workshops (called Arbeitsgemeinschaften or AG's) are an integral part of the social learning curriculum.

- In secondary school, extra-curricular activities help students meet new friends, test physical boundaries and serve the greater good. Whether it's a dance course or an introduction to a new language, running cross-country, making something with your hands or raising global awareness through UNICEF activities, we hope that all of our students can find something that interests them.
