TEFL or Teaching English as a Foreign Language is a term used to describe the dynamic industry catering to students studying English in non-English speaking countries, as well as short-term educational tourists who travel to countries where the English language is spoken. 

TEFL has become a worldwide phenomenon due largely to the global spread of English as the international language of commerce. This has resulted in an ever-increasing need for native-English teachers in non-English countries, such as South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Dubai, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Brazil, Chile and many more. Opportunities abound for individuals to travel, earn and teach!

Course Overview:  The Knowledge Workshop offers a 100-hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, comprising 50 hours of theory and 50 hours of practical training. The theory component of the course is workshopped and process-driven, aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills to step into any EFL / ESL environment with confidence.

The course centres on the Communicative Approach to language teaching, against the historical backdrop of more traditional methods. The Communicative Approach places the learner at the centre of his / her experience and puts the teacher in the role of facilitator. The skills the TEFL trainee acquires are readily transferable and find application across all subject areas, not just English!

Modules covered include:
• Methodologies and application
• Mother-tongue vs. foreign language acquisition and learning
• Grammar in context
• The use of authentic texts in the classroom
• The four skills (listening, speaking, reading writing)
• Activities for the EFL/ESL classroom
• Classroom Management techniques
• Lesson planning
• Teaching English to Young Learners
• Job opportunities - where and how to find work

At the end of the theory component, participants go on to gain practical experience with EFL/ESL speakers. Training encompasses observation, teaching, assisting with classroom management and developing resources. TEFL trainees have the option to complete their training in as little as one week, or to stagger the training to suit their schedule. Training can also take place on Saturdays.

On completion of the course, participants receive a certificate and letter of recommendation. We also provide ongoing assistance and support; we will happily put qualified TEFL teachers in touch with placement agents and other teachers currently working abroad.
