StudyCELTA: CELTA & Delta Courses Cape Town: StudyCELTA is a young and dynamic team of professionals working in the field of English language teaching since 1999. We offer Cambridge University teacher training courses including CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) courses and Delta course modules in Cape Town, South Africa. The CELTA course is available all year round and is a full-time course (4 weeks). Our Delta course is available once a year. Both courses are approved and moderated by the University of Cambridge ESOL and are the most widely recognised qualifications for English language teaching.
Cambridge CELTA Certificate Course: The CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course administered by Cambridge University ESOL. In contrast to other TEFL courses, it is a TEFL qualification which is recognised world-wide.
The CELTA course is recommended to anyone who wants to start teaching English as a foreign language either at one of the many English language schools in Cape Town or abroad.
Why take the CELTA course?
- CELTA is internationally recognised. - The CELTA Certificate is an essential qualification for entering the field of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). - CELTA is the best known and most widely taken qualification in the field of English language teaching to adults. The CELTA course is designed and closely monitored by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations; and on passing the course, trainees receive a certificate from Cambridge University, as well as a report from the centre detailing the trainees’ areas of strength and weakness. - The CELTA course is both practical and theoretical with extensive, closely supervised teaching practice followed by both written and oral feedback. - CELTA Trainers are highly qualified and experienced, and approved by Cambridge University.
CELTA Entry Requirements in Cape Town: You don't need to have a teaching qualification or experience, but
Trainees should: - Be 18 or older at the start of the course. - Have a Matric pass (or equivalent leaving High School certificate) which would enable entrance into tertiary level education (i.e. having gained enough academic level for University entrance). - Have a good level of awareness and proficiency in the English language (non native English speakers are also welcome as long as they have a high proficiency in spoken and written English) - Be willing and able to cope with the intensity of the course.
Interested candidates are required to complete a pre-interview task, and may then be invited to a face to face or phone interview (depending on location of the candidate), at which the candidate will immediately be told whether or not he/she has been accepted onto the CELTA course. The interview allows the centre to determine the candidate’s potential to pass the course and allows candidates to get a clearer idea of what the course involves. Cambridge University Delta Diploma Modular Course: Delta is a postgraduate level qualification from Cambridge University ESOL for teachers with an initial TEFL/ TESOL teaching qualification (e.g. CELTA) and at least 1200 hours of EFL/ ESL teaching experience. The course aims to improve teachers’ awareness of more theoretical aspects of language teaching and learning as well as developing their teaching skills. It is an essential qualification for those wanting to apply for managerial jobs (e.g. Director of Studies) or teacher training positions (e.g. CELTA Trainer).
Delta Course Structure:There are three modules that DELTA is structured around, and in Cape Town, candidates can take the DELTA through the following combination of modules:
Note: Because Module 2 preparatory course is important and extensive, Delta Modules 1 and 3 cannot be taken in Cape Town independently without including Module 2.
The course for Module 2, or Module 2 in combination with Module 1 and/or 3, runs over a period of 8 weeks and it is held only once a year.
Delta Entry requirements:
Delta candidates will: - normally hold an initial TEFL teaching qualification enabling them to teach English in their own context (e.g. CELTA Certificate) - have at least a total of 1200 hours of English teaching experience post their initial TEFL qualification - have a range of experience of teaching different levels in one or more contexts - have a level of written and spoken English which enables them to teach advanced level students - be able to research and present written assignments to the required standard For more information on our ESL teacher training courses, please email us via our Contact Page.
