Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a TESOL English teacher training school in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. We offer a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) course that includes four weeks of intensive training in basic theories and methods of teaching English, intercultural communication for teachers, classroom management, how to work with different learning styles, testing, principles of language acquisition, as well as the sounds and grammar of English.
YWAM is part of Youth With A Mission International - an international volunteer movement of Christians from many backgrounds, cultures and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.
Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth into short-term mission work and to give them opportunities to reach out in Jesus' name. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people of almost every age (even many people who choose to spend their "retirement" in active service), from over 130 countries. Our many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training and mercy ministry. We are currently operating in more than 1000 locations in over 140 countries, with a staff of over 16,000.
We equip adults of all ages to serve in missions- either through long-term missions involvement or short-term missions outreaches. Our training facility is located in the city of Lebanon, in south central Pennsylvania, near the eastern coast of the United States. We're close to the Harrisburg International Airport, and only minutes away from famous Hershey, Pennsylvania.
A four-week course designed to prepare English-speaking Christians to "teach to reach" -- teach English cross-culturally to reach the nations for Christ. This TESOL course is offered several times a year.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a TESOL certificate and supporting documents from the Institute for the Nations, Lebanon PA. These will become the key for opening opportunities to teach English in many settings, worldwide.
Course Prerequisites:
The TESOL school does not allow time to teach the English skills. It focuses on the skills of teaching, so the students must be proficient in English pronunciation and grammar in order to be successful. You do not need to be a native English speaker. There is no formal testing requirement; we expect that you will know if your English is adequate to be a teacher. Some non-native English speakers do well in TESOL; others struggle. We will work with you as much as possible to help you to succeed. Completion of a Discipleship Training School (DTS) is not required.
