St. Anne's - Belfield School:
St. Anne’s-Belfield School, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is an accredited, independent, day and boarding school offering Grades Pre-School - 12 (day), and Grades 9-12 (boarding). Five-day and seven-day boarding options are available in Grades 9-12. A weekly chapel service, a competitive sports program, and a fine and performing arts program compliment the academic experience.

At St. Anne's-Belfield School we offer a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum with 16 Advanced Placement courses including Calculus AB and Calculus BC, as well as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Beyond the academic realm, our international students are involved in every facet of school life. They are an integral part of our art, music, and athletic programs, and actively participate in our community service. International students add tremendous cultural diversity to the school and are an overall asset to our learning enviroment.
English as a Second Language (ESL) program:
St. Anne’s-Belfield School offers an English as a Second Language (ESL) program for Upper School students. Candidates for admission to the school and to the ESL program must demonstrate at least an intermediate level of English proficiency on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). We offer two different levels of ESL: high-intermediate (ESL 3) and advanced (ESL 4).
Graduation Requirements:
All students carry five academic courses each trimester unless specific permission to carry fewer is granted by the Head of the Upper School. A significant number of students elect to carry six courses, and some students choose to carry seven. The following are the minimum requirements for graduation, listed by academic department:
English (4):
Must include English 9, 10, 11, and three trimesters of English 12 elective courses.
History (3):
Must include Early World History, Modern World History, and United States History. A student entering after the freshman year must complete successfully three years of history, and his or her academic record will be evaluated as to the appropriateness of prior history credits earned.
Mathematics (3):
Must include Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
Foreign Language:
Entering freshmen must complete the third level of a foreign language. Students entering after the freshman year must complete the second level of a foreign language. Students in the General Studies track must qualify for placement, demonstrating a documented learning disability.
Science (3):
Four-year students must complete successfully EACH of the following courses: Physics or Modern Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. A student entering after the freshman year should complete successfully three science courses, and his or her academic record will be evaluated as to the appropriateness of prior science credits earned.
Religion (1):
Four year students must complete successfully the introduction to Religion: Sacred Literature course. This requirement may be fulfilled at any time during a student's career in the Upper School.
Fine Arts (1):
Four-year students are required to complete successfully one year or three trimesters of visual or performing arts. Freshman Seminar or Sophomore Seminar: Four-year students are required to participate in Freshman Seminar during their freshman year. All sophomores new to the school will participate in a Sophomore Seminar.
Community Service:
Four year students must complete sixty hours of gratuitous service before final transcripts and certification of graduation will be sent to colleges. Students who enter after the ninth grade year must complete fifteen hours of community service for each year they attend the Upper School.
Physical Activity Requirement:
Four-year students must participate in six trimesters of physical activity; four of which must be completed by the end of their sophomore year. Students who enter school as a sophomore must complete four trimesters of physical activity. Those who enter school as a junior must complete two trimesters of physical activity, and those who enter as seniors must complete one trimester.
