Young Film Academy:
Based in Central London, Young Film Academy (YFA) is the UK’s leading filmmaking provider for children & teenagers aged 8-17. We run practical filmmaking courses and workshops for young people that focus on completing a film – from planning to titling. We work with over 80 leading independent and state schools, with our flagship programme - The One Day Film School. We also run holiday filmmaking courses and a Residential Summer Camp. Our tutors are professionals currently operating within the film industry.
Filmmaking Courses for Children & Teenagers Ages 5-17:
Remote Filmmaking Courses:
Private Remote Filmmaking Courses (10-17yo) - starting from £450 per household group (max. 4 students)
This live course is packed with practical activities and will teach students to use their own equipment like a pro! Whether students have a smartphone, DSLR or video camera, they'll get hands-on experience running their own movie set and learn a range of important skills they can use after the course.
All students will complete their own short films (or music video or documentary), edited with music, sound design and titles. These can be booked for a flexible number of days/half-days/weekly sessions for ages 10-17.
Masterclass - 3-hour Masterclasses for ages 14-17, Saturdays 3-6pm
Young Film Academy run regular interactive remote masterclasses for aspiring young filmmakers and actors aged 14-17 that fuse advanced teaching from industry professionals with practical activities and workshops.
Remote Saturday Filmmakers Club (10-13) - £480 per household group
Weekly 2-hour filmmaking club for ages 10-13 (8 Saturday sessions, 10am-12pm), starting 26th September 2020
Join the club! Young Film Academy are running a remote regular 2-hour weekly filmmaking club for aspiring filmmakers ages 10-13. This weekly club will be running via ZOOM on Saturdays.
Students in our Filmmakers Club will join our award-winning professional filmmaking tutors each week to focus on a particular area of filmmaking to gain extra skills and knowledge. YFA’s Filmmakers Club is perfect for budding and emerging filmmakers looking to be part of a regular and creative online community. Students will learn top tips and develop their craft through practical exercises and workshops, using equipment they already have at their finger tips!
In-Person Filmmaking Courses:
Make a Film in a Day - full day course for ages 8-10 & 11-12 (location Chelsea, London)
Participants on Make a Film in a Day courses are given an overview of the whole filmmaking process from EUREKA!, through to ACTION! to IT’S A WRAP! Working in teams, these young filmmakers work against the clock to plan, storyboard, shoot, act and edit their film (complete with sound effects and music)… and by the end of the day their first movie is complete!
Four Day Film School (10-13 and 14-17yo) - £590 per household group
Under the tuition of our award-winning filmmakers, students on the Four Day Film School embark on a whistle-stop tour of film’s origins and history: they learn screen acting, writing, editing, camerawork and even fight choreography – before they get out there and do it for themselves. Everyone has a chance to develop his or her own role and no one escapes without saying “ACTION!”
This course will be run in line with the government guidelines at the time with social distancing in place as well as regular hand washing and sanitation of equipment. If national or local lockdowns mean we are unable to run the course in-person then it will be transferred to be run online and the structure will stay the same.

YFA Residential Filmmaking and Screen Acting Summer Camp:
For young people who love films, whether it’s creating them or acting in them, YFA’s all-inclusive Summer Camp is a dream come true: a chance to eat, sleep and breathe movies!
