Arts University Bournemouth - Summer Courses:
Situated on the South Coast of England, less than 2 hours from London, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is a leading provider of high-quality creative arts summer camp programs to UK & international students. We offer 2-week & 3-week specialist summer courses for students ages 13+ years old in a range of fields including Animation, Photography, Fashion, Make-up, Film Making, Architecture, and Portfolio Preparation for Art, Design & Media. University accommodation is available to students if required. Creative Arts Summer Courses for Teenagers - UK & International Students:

2 Week Creative Arts Summer School:
Inclusive residential course for teenage children of ages 13, 14, 15 & 16 years old.
Held in June, July / August

The Creative Arts summer school course delivers exciting, hands-on arts education, combining creative teaching with stimulating workshops and practical sessions.

Our two-week inclusive residential course has been specifically designed for young students with a keen interest in the arts and in design, providing them with an exciting experience to explore creative pathways and develop skills for the future. 

This 2-week summer course includes:

• Drawing & Illustration Course:
You will cover the fundamentals of drawing and illustration such as the use of tone and light, colour, line, the edge, shape, form, mark making and negative space. You will have the opportunity to experiment with a range of materials including charcoal, inks, sticks, oil pastel and chalk pastels, acrylics to name a few.

Develop your critical awareness of visual communication and explore a variety of illustration methods and techniques to enhance your understanding of the design process and effectively communicate your ideas. The course includes sessions on location to inspire you, with day trips to areas such as Dorset’s impressive Jurassic coast. 

• Introduction to Animation:
Learn the fundamentals of animation, including how to animate simple objects, character design, and story development. Through a series of seminars, workshops, and practical sessions, you will explore the 12 principles of animation in theory and practice. You will use 2D animation exercises to explore the fundamentals and develop your drawing skills. At the end of the course, there will be a screening of the animated films created during the course with the opportunity for critique and feedback.

• British Architecture & Design:
Based around the creative processes of ‘thinking and making’ to enhance your understanding of architectural design, this course explores architectural concepts of form, space, technology, and function through a mixture of practical training, theory, and field work.

By engaging in workshops and projects, you will be encouraged to apply creative exploration and experimentation when considering architectural design, including architectural model making and large scale installations.

Your studio sessions will be underpinned by course study trips with visits to significant public spaces and buildings including the Serpentine Pavilion, London and Stonehenge. At the end of the course, there will be an exhibition of the work produced with group presentations and tutor feedback.

• Practical Film Making:
If you are a budding filmmaker, this course provides a great introduction to the technical and creative aspects of making a film, from storyboarding through to post production.

Our tutors will guide you through the process of creating a film from initial script ideas through to the finished film product. Working in small groups, you will develop a screenplay, shooting script and storyboard for a short fiction film.

You will take part in pre-production tasks such as location scouting, casting, and developing a narrative, before beginning the live film shoot and post-production sessions.

• Fashion Design & Styling:
Gain an excellent introduction to the design and promotion side of the fashion industry!  Delivered from within our dedicated fashion studios and workshops, this course will allow you to experience the full fashion design process, starting with research, translation and drawing techniques, through to garment design. You will learn through a combination of studio work, practical exercises and excursions.

In addition, you will be introduced to key concepts in fashion promotion, editorial and blogging. At the end of the course, there will be a professional photo shoot to record your finished garments with exhibition and group critique of work produced.

• Creative Make-up Academy:
If you want to work as a professional make-up artist, or pursue further studies in this subject, this summer course taught in our dedicated make-up studios is ideal for you!

You will be introduced to a diverse range of make-up and hair skills, as well as exploring prosthetic make-up and special effects for television and film.

You will be encouraged to experiment with materials, styles and techniques with extended practical sessions giving you the opportunity to create your own looks. These will be recorded in a series of professional photo shoots to add to your portfolio or CV.

• Portfolio Preparation for the Arts:
This course enables you to gain hands-on experience in a range of creative arts disciplines, increase your confidence in your creative abilities and make an informed decision about your artistic direction. 

This makes it ideal if you are considering an arts degree, need to develop your portfolio, or want to experience a variety of arts subjects at higher education level.

Over the 3 weeks, you learn how to research and develop your ideas and how to produce work for your digital and physical portfolio with support and guidance from tutors.
