Sotogrande International School is located in Sotogrande, San Roque, Cádiz in Andalusia, southern Spain, 90 kilometres west of Málaga airport and 20 kilometres east of Gibraltar. We offer students an experience that will open their hearts and minds, expand their horizons and create for them a wealth of opportunities. We are an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, accredited by CIS and NEASC and authorised as a British international school through NABSS and the British Council in Spain. Our programmes are in English.

Primary Years Programme (PYP):
A nurturing environment for primary years.

- Our primary years programme focuses on the development of the whole child, not only in the classroom but also in the outside world, through a multitude of exciting learning environments. We offer a framework that meets children's spiritual, academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs.
- Our primary school follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). The IBPYP is an integrated approach to teaching and learning that balances the search for understanding, the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, the development of positive attitudes and the opportunity for positive action.

At the heart of the IBPYP is a commitment to using structured inquiry as a vehicle for learning. In this way, students are encouraged to generate questions as well as respond to them. We strive to inspire a spirit of inquiry in the students and to prepare them for international citizenship

Middle Years Programme (MYP):
Sotogrande International School has gained full authorisation to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP is a programme of international education designed for students aged 11 to 16; a period that is a particularly critical phase of personal and intellectual development. The programme aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in an interrelated, complex and changing world.
Learning how to learn and how to evaluate information critically is as important as learning facts.

The MYP builds on the work of the Primary School (the IB Primary Years Programme) and prepares students for entry to the IB Diploma Programme (D1 and D2), a universally recognised rigorous, academic course which allows students to gain entry to universities and colleges world-wide. The SIS mission statement, "We inspire learning and intercultural understanding, enriqueciendo la vida de nuestros niños y nuestro mundo"Intercultural understanding is central to the programme, as it recognises the importance of helping students to understand the nature of the world in which we live and, importantly, to help develop a personal value system that will enable them to live as proactive members of their local community and the world at large.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who recognise our common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet and help to create a better and more peaceful world. The IB learner profile is expressed as a series of desired attitudes and attributes that characterise successful learners and global citizens.

SIS has adapted the IB learner profile and, whilst retaining its essential features, made it uniquely applicable to our school. The SIS Values make an explicit link between our mission statement and what we do in practice. They clarify the attitudes and attributes we think are important in order to develop global citizens and achieve excellence, while also linking assessment and the teaching programmes to the mission statement. The SIS values are an explicit, fundamental component of our MYP.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
SIS offers Year 12 and 13 students an inspiring and rigorous education through the prestigious IB diploma programme. Three higher level subjects allow specialisation in a particular field of knowledge. The programme also provides breadththrough its three standard level subjects which ensure coverage of a wide range of disciplines, complementing the subjects chosen at higher level.

SIS is unique as the only international school in the region offering the prestigious IB Diploma Programme on both a residential basis and to day students.

Our IB diploma programme includes three key features that contribute to its strength and success:
• Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) that consists of a variety of activities within the community, for example active involvement local charities, and worldwide with visits to orphanages and participation in conferences.
• An Extended Essay consisting of a piece of original research written under the guidance and supervision of subject teachers
• Theory of Knowledge (TOK) that stimulates critical reflection on knowledge and encourages an appreciation of other cultural perspectives.

Through their involvement in these components, students develop skills which set them apart. The student who satisfies the demands of the IB diploma demonstrates a strong commitment to learning, both in terms of the mastery of subject content and in the development of the skills and discipline necessary for success in a competitive world.
