Marine Military Academy:
Located beneath the scenic South Texas sky in Harlingen, we’re sure just one visit will endear you and your son to our sweeping 142-acre military academy. Marine Military Academy is a private, college-preparatory, military boarding school for young men in Grades 8-12 with an optional post-graduate year. Marine Military Academy believes that with the right guidance, opportunity and instruction, every young man can create a successful path toward the future and reach his full potential. We balance discipline and structure with strong academic instruction to shape a purposeful, responsible young man who is prepared for the challenges of life.
Marine Military Academy is dedicated to developing disciplined, morally strong, college-ready young men who are prepared for responsible leadership. This is accomplished by removing distractions and providing a safe, structured environment where cadets work as a team to develop the mental, emotional and physical skills tomorrow’s leaders need to succeed.
The structure, discipline, academics and physical training at Marine Military Academy are extremely successful in young men struggling with grades or the effects of dealing with ADHD and serve to fuel the mind, body and spirit of cadets helping them develop the tools necessary to be leaders.
Our Mission:
To develop disciplined, morally strong, college-ready young men who are prepared for responsible leadership.
Our Vision:
To provide a wholesome, patriotic and invigorating atmosphere in which students are inspired toward maximum acheivement. Cadets are developed using a whole-man concept through carefully coordinated academics, military, athletics and spiritual programs. The Academy provides education and training which prepares a young man for college and responsible citizenship in a free and competitive society.
Our Values:
- Honor
Cadets are held to the highest ethical and moral standards. Respect for others is essential.
- Courage
Cadets will face their fears and overcome them. They will do what is right no matter the consequences.
- Commitment
Cadets strive for excellence and never give up. Duty to others is fundamental.
Marine Military Academy established itself apart from most of the military schools in that it is based on the time-honored customs and traditions of the U.S. Marine Corps. Unlike many private schools with a Junior ROTC program, Marine Military Academy does not just have a one-hour class for military science and wear a uniform once a week. Our cadets are immersed in the JROTC program every day. The instilled discipline, goal orientation, and initiative of military leadership training are directed toward scholastic achievement.
Cadets emerge as purposeful leaders, prepared for college, university, or one of the nation's military academies. As an Honor school, MMA has the ability each year to submit nominations of their very best Cadets to the United States service academies.
Marine Military Academy has been commissioned to produce the leaders of tomorrow by developing the world’s young men today. We are the only boarding school in the world based on the traditions, values and ideals of the U. S. Marine Corps. We provide the structure, discipline, academics and physical training needed to mold all of our young cadets — no matter the personality type — into true leaders, ready to take on the challenges of a modern world.
The Marine Military Academy is a 142-acre campus, a self-contained community with academic facilities, housing, dining, medical support, recreational and athletic facilities and its own maintenance section.
A number of key staff and faculty members along with all drill instructors and their families live on campus. Cadets are billeted in six, two story barracks with two Cadets to a room and two rooms sharing a bathroom. Each barracks contains an apartment where the drill instructor and his family live.
Extra-curricular Activities:
Among the many organized activities available to Cadets are the Band, Color Guard, Drill Team, Cyber Patriot, Chess Club, Mariners Club, Photography Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, KEY Club, Rotary Interact, 8th grade intramurals, National Honor Society, Rifle Team, Boy Scouts, Weight Lifting, and Yearbook, Scuba, Climbing Club
Academy varsity teams compete against other area private and public schools in football, basketball, baseball, track, golf, tennis, soccer, swimming, physical fitness training, wrestling, boxing, and marksmanship. Intramural competition for eighth graders is offered in basketball, volleyball, track, soccer, and softball. The South Texas weather allows Cadets to participate in outdoor athletics and activities the entire year.
Our annual boys summer camp offers young men ages 12-17, and age 18 if not graduated high school, from around the world the opportunity to converge at MMA for four weeks of authentic Marine adventures and lifelong memories and friendships. Under the guidance of experienced Marines and athletic coaches, you’ll learn to work as a team and develop leadership skills and self-discipline through a series of fun and safe outdoor challenges designed to maximize physical endurance, mental sharpness and self-confidence.
Annual Four Week English as a Secondary Language (ESL) Summer Camp Program
MMA offers an academic summer camp in English as a Second Language (ESL). Open to boys between the ages of 12 and 17, and age 18 if not graduated from high school. The English as a Second Language summer camp program is a four-week total immersion experience. During the day, ESL students attend classes taught by MMA foreign language, English, and math teachers in which they learn to speak, read, and write contemporary American English. Focus is on practical vocabulary needed to study subjects offered at MMA during the regular academic year. Weekly proficiency exams track the students' progress.
After school, the boys participate in the same kinds of activities enjoyed by the military summer camp attendees, focusing on sports and physical fitness in a military environment. Field trips to cultural and sports events and local points of interest give the boys practice in using English in the real world.
