Mercy Montessori:
Mercy Montessori, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a Primary, Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Junior High school offering pre-kindergarten through eighth grade programs to children aged 3 - 12 years old. Mercy Montessori provides a world class education and a strong foundation for learning and discovery as Greater Cincinnati’s first and oldest Montessori school. Mercy Montessori is accredited by the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association, The State of Ohio Department of Education and the American Montessori Association.
Our mission is to instill and nurture in our students a respect for others, a love of God, a sense of personal and communal responsibility, joy in discovery, self confidence, inner discipline, independence, and a peaceful approach to problem solving.
History:
Mercy Montessori Center opened its doors in September of 1969. There were forty students, aged three to seven, on that first day, under the guidance of four Montessori teachers. Sr. Mary Jacinta Shay, the founder and first principal of the school, had discovered the philosophy of the renowned Italian educator Dr. Maria Montessori. She believed that Montessori’s principles, in combination with the values of the Sisters of Mercy would lead to a remarkable learning experience for children.
Today the school continues to offer a special educational and life experience for children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The student population remains steady at about 250 pupils, with a student/teacher ratio of 15:1, ensuring that we know every child by name and can tailor an educational experience uniquely suited to each one.
Mercy Montessori is supported by the Sisters of Mercy. The school accepts and respects each child as an individual, unique in his/her own religious beliefs, cultural heritage and capabilities. The student population of Mercy Montessori Center includes children from all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and intellectual backgrounds. Our school draws from over 40 greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky neighborhoods. Our commitment is to prepare students spiritually, academically, emotionally, and physically to become good citizens of the world and ultimately of heaven.
