Academy of St. Joseph:
The Academy of St. Joseph is a private, co-ed, humanities-based school located in the heart of Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Featuring small class sizes and a rigorous, dynamic curriculum, we are dedicated to creating a new generation of leaders by fostering character, competence, and compassion in every student. The Academy, which is under the direction of long-time educator and head of school, Angela Coombs, has limited openings in Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade classes for the 2010-11 school year. Founded in 2007, the school will add additional grades each year up to 8th grade.
The mission of the Academy of St. Joseph is to provide a rigorous education that enables the intellectual, spiritual and moral development of students. This is accomplished by interested and dedicated teachers who motivate and guide their students through an academic and core curriculum integrated with the teachings of the Catholic Church, as well as the humanities, and the wisdom of the ages.
Our Core Beliefs:
Children thrive in learning environments that meet their developmental needs and that provide a respectful and nurturing environment. The nurturing of the whole child is essential to the formulation of what it means to be a person of character, of competence, and of compassion. Early learning experiences establish the foundation for the acquisition ofknowledge, skills and values that will affect later learning andbehavior. A strong family-school partnership is directly correlated with student success.

In 2007, the Archdiocese of New York, under the direction of Cardinal Edward Egan and Dr. Catherine Hickey, Secretary for Education, resolved there should be a private independent, rigorously academic Catholic school within the archdiocese. The founders of the Academy of St. Joseph valued intellectualism and excellence in academics as supported by the humanities, the rich traditions of the church and the wisdom of the ages.
Character, Competence and Compassion:
The motto of the Academy of St. Joseph reflects the qualities and characteristics which are at the core of our mission. We seek to foster character, competence, and compassion in every student. Our goal is to provide an environment in which every child can experience the joy and the love of learning, intellectualism and knowledge for the enrichment of themselves and of others.
