Ireland and Dublin:

Image of English School in Dublin, IrelandIreland, the traditional land of saints and scholars, is today a progressive part of the European Union. Accessible by air from all major European cities, Ireland has a population of only five million people. Ireland enjoys one of the cleanest environments in Europe with a mild and temperate climate.

The Irish people retain the old values of warmth, friendliness and the importance of the family unit. We are a relaxed people, happy to share a drink, some conversation and invite you to join the craic, an Irish expression for having the time of your life.

English is an art which Irish people craft and use very naturally in the work place, at home and when socialising with friends. It is easy to understand why George Bernard Shaw said “the best English is spoken in Ireland”.

Dublin began as a Viking trading post known as Dubh Linn over 1000 years ago. It is now the capital city of Ireland and home to more than 1.1 million people. To the west of the city are hills and mountains, to the east the sea with fishing harbours and beautiful beaches.

Dublin’s many attractions range from museums and art galleries to the famous Guinness Brewery and Temple Bar which is the centre for restaurants and nightlife. Street-side pubs and cafes are alive with buzz of conversations and traditional Irish entertainment. Visitors often find themselves engaged in discussions of sports, music, politics and literature. barDublin is a thriving centre for culture and is home to the great literary personalities of Shaw, Yeats, Joyce and Beckett. It is also the source of musical talent ranging from the traditional Dubliners and the Chieftains to the more contemporary U2, The Corrs, etc.

Modern Ireland is the fastest growing economy in Europe and Dublin is the economic engine of that economic growth. The leading sectors of the economy are software, electronics, financial services and tourism.

Dublin is a beautiful city with countless places of interest to explore. It is a city steeped in history, tradition and culture.
