Work Placement Programmes:
Our aim is to help you gain successful employment in your chosen field. Portobello Institute’s work experience programme for our full-time students provides you with an introduction to your chosen industry, which will then usually pave the way for employment opportunities withinthe industry of your choice. The placement programme will enhance your CV, giving you some experience and your first reference from within the industry. The college assists with the arrangement of the work placement and is under full supervision of the course co-ordinator. The majority of students are offered employment from the work experience company before they graduate.

The increased public awareness in fitness and the need to exercise in order to lead a healthy well-balanced life has led to a massive boost in the numbers of people participating in sports. This interest in fitness has in turn led to an added demand for qualified sports therapist who have a complete understanding of sport and fitness from training regimes, to the effects of diet and nutrition, to the treatment and prevention of sports injuries and finally to understanding the psychology that will give an athlete the mental strength to win.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates from the programmes available at Portobello Institute can expect to work in the following areas:

- Therapists employed by rugby, soccer, GAA, track & field and swimming clubs, leisure and fitness centres, sports injuries clinics or as a private consultant therapist working with private clients on a freelance basis.

- NCEF Stages 1 & 2: Health clubs, team sport fitness and coaching, personal training, exercise for the older adult.

- ISSA Personal Trainer: Ability to work with client's one-to-one; work freelance within a health and fitness club.

- ISSA Fitness Therapist: Ability to work with people who have completed their prescribed medical treatment and require specialised programming which complements the treatment they have undergone.

Many of our tutors have run their own private client consultancy companies who can give you the benefit of their experience. Donegal Surf School
Courses / Programs
We are an outdoor sports training and education centre in Donegal, Ireland. We specialise in surf and watersports coaching and training. We offer semester and gap-year programmes for students wishing to become outdoor sports instructors. Our overseas students can also do internships and study Irish culture while working towards world-recognised qualification in surf coaching, lifeguarding, ropes & climbing, kayaking and first aid. Overseas students are welcome to avail of excellent rates for semesters and gap-year options which include full accommodation in Ireland plus all equipment required.
Our courses run from 1-week for local and domestic students to semester and academic year-long courses for overseas students. Our courses focus on outdoor sports, with particular attention to surfing, lifeguarding and climbing. Internships and cultural courses are also offered to out overseas students.
Centre for Sports Studies - UCD
Courses / Programs
The Centre for Sport Studies, established in University College Dublin in 1999, serves as a focus of innovative academic activity in the increasingly important areas of Sports Studies through research, consultancy and the provision of multidisciplinary teaching. The Centre has a staff of five, works in partnership with departments in all UCD faculties and utilises the expertise of over 30 guest lecturers from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. There are approximately 200 full-time and part-time students, including mature entrants and elite athletes, enrolled on its undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Our MSc (Sports Studies) is being offered by UCD's Centre for Sports Studies in association with the Centre for Continuing Professional Education. This new programme may be taken on a one-year full time or a two-year part time basis and will normally be open to graduates who have completed and achieved a high standard in their primary degree.

National Council for Exercise & Fitness, Limerick

The National Council for Exercise & Fitness (NCEF) is an academic affiliate of the University of Limerick (UL), offering the only university accredited Health/Fitness Professional Instructor qualifications in Ireland.

Certificate, Higher Certificate, Diploma & Degree qualifications are awarded at Levels 6,7 & 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and at Levels 5 & 6 on the European Framework (EQF).

The NCEF is audited and aligned to the European Industry standard, Exercise for Health Specialist (EQF Level 5).

English Language Camp Ireland
Courses / Programs
• English Language immersion course for students aged 12 to 17 in County Sligo in the beautiful West of Ireland!

• The programme consists of 3 hours of English tuition each morning. Afternoons are filled with a choice of fun activities including Kayaking, Horse-Riding, Cookery Lessons, Irish Dancing and Zip-Lines in the local forest park!

• Our course is also attended by Irish teenagers who act as Student Guides for our international students. The Irish teenagers attend activities and live with the students in our lakeside accommodation to ensure they have an enjoyable language learning holiday.

• Evenings are spent relaxing and include English movie nights, Quizzes, Board games, table tennis competitions etc.

• English Language Camp Ireland takes place on Lough Arrow in the west of Ireland. The residential accommodation is located on the shores of one of Ireland's most beautiful lakes.

• Our unique weekend excursion takes students to a remote island on the lake where our students along with Irish teenagers, teachers and activity leaders camp overnight.

We provide English summer courses for juniors and teenagers. Students are divided into groups according to age and level - ages 9-12 and 13-17.
