Cross of Hope Elementary School:
Cross of Hope Elementary School, located on the west side of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a Christian school of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) offering grades Preschool to 5th grade. Cross of Hope Elementary School offers quality, developmentally appropriate education devoted to Christian nurture for children. Cross of Hope houses two educational ministries. The Cross of Hope Preschool is available for 3 and 4 year olds, while the Cross of Hope School will provide elementary education starting with Kindergarten.

Preschool (3 & 4 year olds):
The children attend weekly chapel and worship time as well as Spanish and music. Child-initiated activities will allow each child to make discoveries or practice skills at his/her own pace. Teacher directed activities encourage children to experience new ideas and concepts in a concrete way.

Elementary School (Kindergarten - 5th Grade):

Math:
COHLES will use Everyday Mathematics, a comprehensive scientifically researchbased program that builds mathematical knowledge through progressive teaching of the basics to higher-order thinking and critical problem solving. Students acquire knowledge and skills, and develop an understanding of mathematics from their own experience. Everyday Mathematics introduces children to all the major mathematical content domains-number sense, algebra, measurement, geometry, data analysis, and probability. Mathematics is more meaningful when it is rooted in real-life contexts and situations, and when children are given the opportunity to become actively involved in learning while also building and maintaining basic skills, including automatic fact recall.

Fine Arts Kindergarten-5th Grade:
Our classroom teachers will provide Fine Arts instruction. We believe that in order for children to develop their mental capabilities and realize their fullest potential, they need to be exposed to many kinds of knowledge, to many ways of knowing their world and expressing their thoughts. Our Fine Arts program helps children communicate thoughts and feelings through performance and visual forms.

Our students will be provided opportunities through visual arts experiences that provide knowledge about the world and ways of experiencing it that contributes to an understanding that is unique and different. The arts present artists’ insights about personal experiences common to us all. They also convey important social meanings or describe social values or conditions. Our Fine Arts program will be integrated into reading, writing, and social studies experiences.

Technology 1st-5th Grade:
Students will have opportunities to gain skills in computer literacy, keyboarding, word processing, drill and practice, and Internet use. Teachers will also integrate the use of technology in all content areas.
