Ocean Classroom Seafaring Camps:
Ocean Classroom Foundation is an educational organization that provides programs of sea education and adventure for the youth of America. Our headquarters are located in Boothbay Harbour in Maine and our seafaring camps begin and end in Boston MA and / or Portland, ME. Seafaring Camps are one and two-week co-educational learning adventures for middle school and high school students exploring the marine environment of coastal New England and the Western North Atlantic to learn about the sea's rich diversity of life, history and lore. Through investigations led by the ship's education officer, students observe whales in their natural habitat, collect plankton, visit historic sites and museums, and share sea songs and stories. While aboard ship all meals, necessary equipment and education materials are provided. No experience necessary.
Full Participation: all students participate fully in the life and operation of the ship.
Seamanship Training: all students receive continual training in the arts and sciences of traditional seafaring.
Appreciation of the Sea: all students are introduced to the ocean as an environment subject to ecological imperatives, and as a place of natural wonder and profound beauty.
Courses / Programs:
Seafaring Camp is a one-week co-educational learning adventure for teens, age 13 - 16, exploring the marine environment of coastal New England to learn about the sea's rich diversity of life, history and lore. 2010 Summer Voyages begin in Boston and return to Boston or Portland, Maine.
Advanced Seafaring Camp is a two-week co-educational learning adventure for older or returning teens, age 15 -18. Advanced Seafaring Camp is a major sea-voyage exploring the Gulf of Maine and coastal Nova Scotia. 2010 Summer voyage begin in Boston or Portland, Maine and return to Boston.
Students stand watch with the professional crew and learn the time-honored arts of the seafarer - sail handling, steering by compass, knots and splices, and navigation. They discover the life and mystery of the ocean world as only a sailor can, while making fast friends through shared adventure. Twenty-one to twenty-three students sail each session with eight professional crew and an educator, so everyone is fully involved and the instruction is tailored to each camper's skill level.
The guiding principle of Ocean Classroom Foundation is authentic experience. All academic activities are related to the sea.
Ocean Classroom Foundation students live in the ocean world, and interact with its natural and cultural forces every day. Their learning occurs in context, as they explore and test their new knowledge in the real environment. Abstractions of science and math are grasped and tested, and themes of literature and history are made tangible and relevant. Living and working upon the ever-changing sea requires all voyagers to be alert, clear minded, open-eyed and responsive to the environment. This sense of responsive alertness is cultivated as Ocean Classroom Foundation's path to learning.
Ocean Classroom Foundation is an educational organization that provides programs of sea education and adventure for the youth of America aboard the schooners Westward, Spirit of Massachusetts and Harvey Gamage. Ocean Classroom Foundation is a leader in experiential education, with award-winning programs sailing from the Canadian Maritimes to the Caribbean Sea. Programs vary from one-day, to one-week, to semester long adventures for middle school, high school and college students; custom programs for schools, youth and community organizations and continuing education for American history teachers.

Boston Leadership Institute is located in Wellesley, 15 miles west of downtown Boston in Massachusetts, and provides summer enrichment programs for high school students including Applied Physics, Biological Research, STEM Entrepreneurship, Engineering, Psychology, and Neuroscience.Teens from the US and abroad explore Boston and engage in classroom or laboratory activities during the three-week summer programs. Gifted and advanced classes are also available with day and overnight program options available.
Students in the summer programs engage in a variety of fun-filled activities designed to promote experiential learning.

The Young Artist Residency Program (YAR) at The Art Institute of Boston (AIB) at Lesley University in Boston, MA is designed for high school students who will be entering their junior or senior year in the Fall. This intensive summer art residency program consists of 4 weeks of classes, and art-making is designed to offer a professional art college experience.
Strengthen your portfolio and become the artist you were meant to be through our Young Artist Residency program. Learn the high-tech side of art-making by gaining experience with state-of-the-art computer software and hardware. Students select their own courses, build their own schedules and are in classes Monday through to Friday.
Students live in Lesley University residence halls, minutes from Harvard Square in Cambridge and study art with college professors and graduates of AIB in our Boston studios, just across the Charles River. While living on campus, weekend and evening activities are organized to highlight the historic and cultural significance of Boston.

Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp is a unique and inspiring residential summer leadership program in Massachusetts, California and Oregon for youth 12-17 years who want to make a difference in the world. YEA Camp Massachusetts is held at the beautiful Hilltop space of Nature’s Classroom in Charlton, an hour from Boston, and less than 3 hours from Manhattan. Our northern California camp will be held at the beautiful Quaker Center in Ben Lomond, Santa Cruz County, about two hours drive south of San Francisco. There will be two sessions in Oregon at Camp Adams in Molalla, Clackamas County, less than an hour from Portland. At a week-long sleep-away program in a beautiful camp setting, YEA campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, or animal rights) and they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue once they get home.

We also provide a monthly YEA Academy workshop in Portland, OR for youth, and there are plans to expand this program to other parts of the country.

Academic School Year language immersion residential camps for primary & secondary students.
Camp Sagemont at The Sagemont School of Weston, Florida provides summer English immersion programs for international students entering Grades 1-12.The city of Weston is a beautiful Southwest Florida community, located just 30 minutes away from the international airports of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Our students participate in daily interactive ESL (English as a Second Language) lessons that are focused on improving their ability to communicate effectively in real life situations.
To help our students to practice their new English language skills, we provide the option of participating in cultural, social and sporting camp activities in the afternoons through our ESL Advantage Plus program.
Only 30 students are enrolled on each camp session. We offer small groups and a customized instruction plan that is specially designed to maximize each student’s learning potential by building on their personal interests and abilities.
Camp Sagemont also provides a summer ESL program for international high school students ages 14-17 who are preparing to study in an American high school.
