Coed Boarding & Day Programs for Grades 6-12:
The curriculum of SJNA reinforces the mission of college placement. Each student is encouraged to take a full class load each year. Included in this load are the requirements of four years of English, three years of math, social studies, and science, two years of a foreign language, and one credit of fine arts.

Advanced Placement Classes:
These classes can be taken by any student grades 10 through 12. A maximum of two AP courses per year can be taken.

Aviation Science:
St. John’s Northwestern Aviation Science program offers high school junior and seniors interested in aviation the opportunity to earn their private pilot’s license as part of the accredited academic curriculum. This unique opportunity is a natural stepping stone for those interested in degrees in aviation-related majors and aerospace. Selected students also have the opportunity to begin work on advanced pilot ratings, such as that required for instrument flight.

Marching, Concert and Pep Band:
The SJNA Marching Band, Pep Band and Concert Band are configurations of students from grades 6 through 12. The Marching Band has been in existence for many years and represents St. John's Northwestern Academies in several parades during the year. One of the biggest events for our band students is marching in downtown Chicago for the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in March. The Concert Band performs three formal concerts each year and the Pep Band participates at home athletic events.

College Counseling Program:
SJNA's college counselors assist students with the college application process. An average of 15 college representatives visit the Academies each year, including representatives from each of the U.S. military academies. Students are encouraged to visit college campuses. Information about this process is made available to parents as soon as students enroll.

Located in Viroqua, southwest Wisconsin (45 minutes south of the city of La Crosse), Youth Initiative High School is a wonderfully unique day and boarding high school for US and international students in Grades 9-12.

Located in northwestern Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI) is an accredited, family-run, therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens (boys and girls) ages 13-18 from Iowa and acrossthe United States.

In our beautiful, peaceful, and safe location, we combine the benefits of a therapeutic boarding school, a wilderness program, and a residential treatment center (RTC).

TWAI has been serving struggling teens and their families since 2002, with an exceptional degree of success.

We provide an extremely high standard of therapeutic treatment to our students, and offer help for the following presenting issues: poor academic performance, behavioral problems, addictions, low self-worth, spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and attachment disorders among others.

We are a small program (40 students) which means that we are able to provide a truly unique and customized approach for every student.

Typically our on site student to staff ratio is 5:1. The average stay at our residential treatment center is 12 months.
