Manor Courses:
Manor Courses is a family-run, residential summer school that offers English language courses for young international students. Established in 1970, we are located in West Sussex in the South of England, approximately 20 minutes drive from the famous city of Brighton (75km from London). We offer residential English language Summer courses for children aged 10-17, and their families. Students can choose to stay for 1-5 week courses during July and August. Our family (the Directors) live at the college all summer, and promise 24 hour support for students, parents, agents and teachers.
Summer Camps for Juniors & Teens - Ages 10-17, all levels:
The foundation of our well-structured Residential Summer Course is MC English. This course consists of 18 hours of English language tuition per week for all levels, from Beginner to Advanced. Each child is given a placement test and interview on arrival to ensure that they are placed at a level that best suits their learning needs. Class sizes are kept small to allow for individual attention. The average class size is 12 and the maximum is 15 students.
English Course Structure:
Each week students receive:
- 5 x 90 minutes 'Language Awareness' lessons
(inc. work based on popular and credible textbooks, focussing on grammar, language structures, listening, vocabulary, reading etc.)
- 5 x 90 minutes 'Communication Skills' lessons
(inc. a range of popular topics/current issues, with discussion/group-work/information-finding games and activities etc.)
- 3 x 1 hour Project English sessions in the early evenings
(inc. focussing on UK culture/cities/history and the MC Discovery & Social Programme etc.)
Sports & Recreational Activities for our English Language Students:
In addition to English classes, our well-structured residential summer course offers extensive sports and recreational activity programmes. This includes:
- MC Sport: Combining English language with sports activities:
MC Sport provides an extensive range of sports activities organised by our team of young and friendly sports leaders. There are 15 Summer Camp Program sessions each week, including football, basketball, tennis, swimming, archery, rock climbing and much more. Tournaments are organised in many of the above sports with medals for the winners.
Optional extra - Chelsea FC (Football Club) 2 week Training Course: 6 x 3hr afternoon sessions.
- MC Art: Daily Arts and Crafts Activities:
Students can visit the MC Art room every afternoon and evening and enjoy creative arts and crafts activities. There are 15 sessions each week. All materials are supplied and students are welcome to take home what they have produced. Some popular themes include: Aboriginal Art; Drawing Techniques; Mask making; Origami; Collage; Papier mache; Graffitti; Fashion; Still life and Jewellery.
- MC Performance: Music, Dance & Drama:
MC Performance activities offer students the opportunity to explore and develop their talents in music, drama and performing arts. There are 15 sessions each week. These are sessions not lessons - they offer students an introduction and allow them to explore and develop their interest at their own pace. Using their talents, skills and imagination, students are inspired by our leaders but also inspire each other. Some of the popopular activities include: Dance; Drama; Talent Shows; Discos; Treasure Hunts; Music sessions; Karaoke; Quiz nights; MC / Rap workshop; DJ workshop; Cheerleading; Drum Circle; Bingo; Films.
- MC Discovery: Weekly cultural and historical excursions:
We offer weekly cultural and historical excursions as well as guided tours to London, Oxford, Canterbury, Brighton...)
- 1 full day and 1 half day excursion per week
- Places of historical and cultural interest
- Entrance to an attraction or a guided tour is included
- Students also have some free-time for shopping

Our activity programme ensures students experience enjoyable and continuous learning throughout the day. We provide a truly international atmosphere by welcoming students from every continent. This encourages students to communicate in their common language - English.
English Language Family Courses:
Manor Courses are now pleased to provide a study option for the whole family. These courses are for families with children already enrolled on the standard residential course at Hurst College. We can also offer English courses for the parents / younger brothers and sisters of the enrolled student.
English Tuition for Parents and Younger Bothers/Sisters:
- Come to UK with your children (or brother/sister) and study privately with us at Hurst College.
- Students aged 10-17 will be in residence at the college.
- Parents and younger siblings will take residence in a local Guest House or a local bed and breakfast e.g.: Little Turrets or Wickham Place.
