Students in Years 7 and 8 join the Rangi Ruru Intermediate School. The School has it's own identity yet benefits from the specialist staff and facilities of the secondary school (such as science labs, music computer suites and art rooms), which are not generally available in intermediate schools. Intermediate School students are part of the whole student community and are included in events, activities and committees.  For example, Intermediate School students use the science labs, music suites, art rooms, and sports coaching - facilities not generally available in intermediate schools.  Each classroom has computers with email access and computer skills are a part of each girl’s programme. As part of the Intermediate School Core Programme, the student’s Tutor teaches Mathematics, English, Outdoor Education, Health and Social Studies. This provides a secure home-room environment where themes of work can be taken enabling the development of essential skills common to several subject areas.  The Intermediate School has the benefit of having access to specialist teachers and facilities in the secondary school for subjects such as: Art, Music, Christian Living, Physical Education, Design Technology, Science, Food and Textile Technology, Sport, Graphics, Theatre Arts and Languages.

NCEA
New Zealand's national qualification for secondary school learners is the National Certificate of Educational Achievement - NCEA .
NCEA level 1 replaced School Certificate in 2002. In 2003 NCEA level 2 was introduced. NCEA level 3 replaced University Bursaries in 2004. In addition, Scholarship (not using achievement or unit standards) is available to outstanding students.
NCEA is a qualification on New Zealand's National Qualifications Framework (NQF). It sits alongside more than 800 other national qualifications used throughout tertiary education and industry training. Students at school can attain many of these specialist qualifications as they complete NCEA.
Because the NQF is benchmarked internationally, NCEA is recognised overseas.

The College has an atmosphere closer to university than school. We offer students the opportunity to thrive in an atmosphere of managed independence that acts as a stepping stone between school and university.

At RIC, there is no uniform, no bells ring and everybody is on first name terms. Students are encouraged to be themselves and achieve exam results that often exceed their expectations.

“My wife and I left RIC after our visit convinced it was the right move for our daughter. In fact, it’s the kind of school we both would have loved to have gone to ourselves.”
