As the industry steadily grows the importance of post-secondary training becomes more valuable to those wanting to enter the industry “work-ready”. The steady growth of Manitoba’s creative industries correlates directly to the growth of employment opportunities in audio production. This is a demand that MOSMA grads are qualified to fill. MOSMA, through it’s Audio in Media programme, is dedicated to training students with relevant technology and creating opportunities to network with peers in the industry, adding to this crucial knowledge and insight from mentors on current industry practices. We value and nurture an environment which stimulates creativity and encourages collaboration, adding to this,. These advantages allow our graduates to enter the industry with confidence and a diversely high skill level, making them extremely competitive. Over the past two decades MOSMA has established confidence in an industry where employers can pursue recruitment.
MOSMA offers low student to teacher ratios in its courses and it aims for intimate classroom settings where learning is enhanced. In following its mandate of providing optimal learning conditions for its students, MOSMA continues to encompass a variety of teaching and learning strategies within its course structure.
Our programme is a one year intensive and practical learning experience designed to provide graduates with the vocabulary, primary technical skills and concepts for a wide range of positions in the audio production field such as: Music Production, Sound for Film, TV, and Gaming, Live Sound, and Radio Production. We provide our students with over 1,305 hours of instruction of theory and practical; this is equivalent to 2 years of University or College.
With various positions such as recording studio engineers, live sound engineers, film set boom operators, audio technicians, sound designers, radio producers, music composers and educators, just to name a few; MOSMA graduates have established themselves within the audio industry throughout Canada and Internationally.

Successful completion of programme, students will possess the skills that apply to numerous branches of audio production. With these skills students will be qualified to fill a variety of positions in Live Sound Reinforcement, Music Production, Radio Production, and Sound for Television, Film, Gaming, and Theatre. Students gain valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the industry through various recording sessions, industry mentorships, and work practicum. Our students also graduate with AVID Pro Tools Certification.
The Audio in Media Programme consists of Three Terms:

This course delivers a comprehensive introduction to the studio production workflow. Topics covered include; Consoles, Signal Flow, Microphones, Recording Techniques and basic Mixing. On completion of this course, students will learn the tools and basic setup to successfully conduct a recording session.

Basic audio recording knowledge is required
This course introduces fundamental Pro Tools concepts and principles, covering everything an individual needs to know to complete a basic Pro Tools project, from initial setup to final mixdown.
Students also learn to build sessions that include multi-track recordings of, MIDI sequences and virtual instruments. Hands-on exercises and projects introduce essential techniques for creating sessions, recording and importing audio and MIDI, editing session media, navigating sessions and arranging media on tracks, and using basic processing and mixing techniques to finalize a production.

This course introduces students to contemporary mixing & editing techniques in music production using the industry standard Pro Tools software. Topics include; mixing concepts, internal 'in the box' signal routing, automation, signal processors, and signal processing techniques.
On completion of this course, students will learn the steps in creating an efficient mix session and complete a full mix of their chosen material.

This course delivers an introduction to the mixing and signal processing workflow of Ableton Live.
On completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of basic music mixing techniques including; Automation, EQ, Compression, Reverb, and Delay.

Music Production is a five (5) hour day through which participants focus on the music recording process from beginning to end. In a professional studio environment, participants are lead by a qualified Audio Engineer through a recording session with a Singer/Songwriter. They will then move into the mixing process learning current industry tools and practices. This workshop is designed for youth ages 16 to 21 years of age, either currently in a music or production related high school class or individuals exploring music production on their own and anyone with a general interest in the recording process for music.
