Program:
The Athens Centre's Modern Greek language program is considered to be the most comprehensive of its kind. Training much of the diplomatic and business community in Greece, it is widely regarded as a benchmark for language programs worldwide. The program is based on a comprehensive, integrated approach to learning modern Greek.
Courses are scheduled throughout the year and include beginning through advanced profic
iency levels. The syllabus has been created to teach the language to adults of all nationalities, using textbooks developed at the Centre. Classes are small, with an average of 8-12 participants in each course. A three week summer program is held on the island of Spetses.
Participants in the language courses are encouraged to develop an interest in many aspects of Greek life and culture. Extra materials are used in all classes, and include folk songs, literature and articles from newspapers and periodicals. Students receive certificates at the end of each successfully completed course.
A three-week summer session is held each year on the island of Spetses. The program includes immersion language classes, extra activities such as Greek folk dance and films, and optional excursions to the Epidaurus Festival of Ancient Greek Drama.
Types of Courses:
The Athens Centre offers Greek language courses from beginning through advanced levels. Each level consists of 60 hours of classroom instruction. Courses vary in intensity and duration, but all courses with the same level number cover the same materials. For example, a 10 week Greek I course meeting twice a week for 10 weeks covers the same class material as a 3, 4, or 7 week course with the same level number. The types of courses offered are:
Immersion:
3 weeks, 5 days 
a week, 4 hours a day.
Accelerated:
4 weeks, 5 days a week, 3 hours a day.
Intensive:
7 weeks, 3 days a week, 3 hours a day.
Regular:
10 weeks, 2 days a week, 3 hours a day.
Regular:
5 weeks, 2 days a week, 3 hours a day.
Conversation/Grammar Review:
5 weeks , 2 days a week, 3 hours a day
Greek Literature:
3 weeks, 3 days a week, 3 hours a day
Newspaper Conversation:
5 weeks , 2 days a week, 3 hours a day
Business Greek:
5 weeks , 2 days a week, 3 hours a day
Greek Proficiency Exam Preparation:
10 weeks 2 days a week, three hours a day
Spetses Summer Session:
3 weeks , 5 days a week, 4 hours per day

Situated in the Nea Ionia area of northern Athens, Alexandria Institute provides Greek language courses for students who want to make rapid progress in Greek language and deepen their knowledge of Greece and its culture. Lord Byron Schools of Languages provides year-round modern Greek language courses in our city centre school in Thessaloniki in Central Macedonia in Northern Greece, approximately 515 km (320 miles) north of Athens. We offer special tailor-made courses in Greek for specific purposes, activities and entertainment during the week, excursions and visits on a weekly basis and much more. We also have an international summer school in Gerakini and Ouranoupoli, Chalkidiki in West Macedonia in Northern Greece. From Thessaloniki, Gerakini is 80 km (50 miles) and Ouranoupoli is 140 km (87 miles). Our summer school runs during the holidays with 4 or 5 hours Greek language tuition per day. All our teachers are highly experienced, hold university degrees and are bilingual.
Thessaloniki's international airport Macedonia is approximately 15 km (9 miles) south of the city centre, with direct connections to many national and international destinations.
