Residential Treatment Program for Girls Ages 13-17:

Photo of Residential Treatment Center in Utah for Troubled GirlsClinical Program:
New Haven’s Clinical Program is based on family systems theory. Family systems theory acknowledges that people heal and make progress most effectively within the context of families. New Haven welcomes family involvement in each student’s treatment.

New Haven’s clinicians focus a lot of energy on building therapeutic relationships with each student and family. We know from research and experience that the positive therapeutic relationship developed between student, family, and therapist is one of the most powerful agents of change.

New Haven knows that many struggling adolescent girlshave grown tired of traditional talk therapies, so our therapists are trained in using more experiential techniques, as well.

New Haven Residential Treatment Center's clinicians choose more nurturing interventions over confrontation as their first approach, and build on strengths rather than focus on weakness.

Academics
New Haven School is committed to creating an encouraging and challenging learning environment that enables students to become well-rounded, healthy, and productive life long learners.

New Haven school is fully accredited by the North West Association of Schools and Colleges and the Utah State Office of Education. Instruction at New Haven School is in a traditional classroom structure with fully accredited teachers. Our academic program aligns with each student’s therapeutic goals. Teachers take part in our weekly treatment team meeting to discuss each student’s progress and future interventions.

New Haven’s education goal is to get our students back on their grade level and transition back smoothly to another school setting or, graduate andPhotos of New Haven Residential Treatment Center move on to college.

College Prep:
The classes at New Haven are designed for the student who is going on to a 2-year or 4-year college. However, students who do have a learning disability or need a specific learning style addressed are also accommodated through the small, individualized approach in the classroom setting.

Students who do need additional help outside of the classroom can meet with the teachers on an individual basis or will be assisted by our teacher’s aid to assist in homework management, test preparation, organization and prioritizing work load.

The Arts:
The New Haven art program offers students the opportunity to develop artistic abilities by embracing new ideas and techniques in medium, theory and art history. As the students work with each other in our small but diverse classroom setting they are able to gain an appreciation for others and their ideas, and as a result students are able to strengthen interpretive and analytical skills.

Classroom discussions encourage reflection and help hone the creative process from thumbnail to masterpiece. We are privileged to work in both two dimensional and three dimensional mediums ranging from drawing and painting to sculpture and installation art with opportunity for private lessons in photography and digital arts. It is our goal to nurture talents and help our students recognize and be recognized by the fruits of diligence and hard work throughout their lives.

Physical Education:
Picture of Residential Treatment Center in Utah for Troubled GirlsNew Haven’s physical education program consists of a variety of activities. It is our goal to help the girls to achieve optimal health by eating right and exercising. Taking part in physical education improves self-concept, decreases depression, and enhances mental toughness. Students increase their overall health as they build their cardiovascular endurance, participate in strength training exercises, and improve their flexibility.

Additionally, students have opportunities to do activities such as yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, and dancing. The girls can also participate in team sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and swimming. By incorporating a variety of activities for the girls to take part in, we help them to enjoy having a healthy lifestyle.

Equine Program:
Every student has the opportunity to ride and care for New Haven's horses every week. Students who are advanced riders may pass a riding test and obtain permission to ride on their own.

From time to time, riding instructors take students on trail rides in the mountians close to campus.
