The Brownstone School and Daycare Center is a preschool located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City. It was founded in 1963 and chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1983. Most of our families live or work on Manhattan's Upper West Side. However, the school has always been strongly committed to families from a variety of cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds that reflect our diverse society, so families from all over the city have always been a part of The Brownstone. We have been serving the community for 45 years and welcome children ages 2 to 5.
The Brownstone School and Daycare Center is licensed by the New York City Department of Health and is a member of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY), the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) and the Parents League of New York. We are located at 128 West 80th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, half a block from the Museum of Natural History. Tuition is comparable to that of other NYC independent, early childhood schools. Those who meet eligibility requirements may apply for placements, available through the New York City's Agency of Child Development.
Location and Facilities:
The Brownstone School houses five preschool classrooms. Each group, except for the young two's, have an entire floor to themselves. Classrooms are air-conditioned, bright, spacious, and equipped with age-appropriate areas that promote both child and teacher-directed activities.
The backyard was recently equipped with a modern double slide, climbing apparatus, a short tunnel, tricycles, child-size basketball hoop, and a metal "VW beetle" is available for all to use. The children also frequently visit outside community resources such as Central Park, The Museum of Natural History, Riverside Park, the New York City library, and others.
The newly renovated ground floor includes a fully equipped kitchen. This is used to heat the lunch and is used frequently by the classes during baking activities.

The New Amsterdam School offers programs inspired by Waldorf curriculum for children from birth to age seven and beyond in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Established in 2006, it began as a grassroots alliance of educators, parents and community leaders determined to bring the benefits of Waldorf education to the Lower Manhattan community in New York City. The school will open the doors to their grade school in the Fall of 2014! As the school grows the preschool will also expand to welcome more families into the school community.

EL TALLER LATINO AMERICANO (The Latin American Workshop) is a non-profit arts and education organization in New York City. We offer year round art and music workshops for children. El Taller also has a 22-year history of being the musical home in New York for musicians from all over the Americas. Our Artistic Director Bernardo Palombo is a composer, performer and impresario who has brought some of the greatest names in American music to El Taller including: Mercedes Sosa, Philip Glass, David Byrne, Leon Gieco, Atahualpa Yupanqui and many more. At our art classes, children can enjoy engaging in different techniques and processes while exploring their own abilities and aesthetic. Different processes that are explored include painting, drawing, sculpture, collage and multimedia projects. Our music classes which take place at our center or your school or other choice of location bring the room to life, with exciting instruments from different countries of South America including learning the instruments, rhythms and dances of the Peruvian coast.
