The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma:
The IB Diploma programme, which is proving increasingly popular with both universities and employers, provides Sixth Form students at Taunton School with an attractive alternative to taking A Levels.
This two-year course is a holistic programme with a particular emphasis on independent learning and a questioning approach to knowledge. The IB Diploma is popular with students who recognise the benefits of taking a broad range of subjects in the Sixth Form. It is a challenging course that is particularly suited to those who enjoy the freedom to think, without the restriction of modular exams. While the IB Diploma is ideal for the most able students, the courses are accessible to all students who are well motivated and willing to work hard and gain good study skills.
- At Taunton School, we aim to create an atmosphere in which pupils can develop their own unique collection of talents. We encourage all students to make the most of a wide range of opportunities that will allow them to move smoothly into the wider world we hope that they will feel confident with their new found independence as they move towards higher education and the world of work.
- There is a great deal of scope for breadth and, although emphasis is focused on academic study, we ensure that individuals do not lose sight of aesthetic, sporting and social interests. The choice and range of extra-curricula opportunities - notably sporting and recreational pursuits - also rate highly with boarders. Where distance from home to school is a factor, time spent travelling will impact on the time that can be devoted to leisure pursuits.
- By living at the school pupils have both the time and the facilities available to them for developing sporting skills and social contacts. Pupils benefit from the range of activities available to boarders and in many cases, can participate in a variety of cultural and leisure activities.
