Bangkok Patana School is committed to ensuring that our students are receiving the best intellectual, physical and social preparation for their futures.
Primary School:
Early Years Foundation Stage:
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) includes our Nursery Classes, Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2. It provides an important link between home and the more tightly structured National Curriculum programme which starts when the children reach Year 1 at age 5+.
The facilities in Foundation are excellent, and though part of the larger school, are sufficiently separate to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children. The children have their own playground (both open and under cover), cycle track, learn-to-swim pool, soft play area, indoor play dens, library and gardens. At the same time, they receive stimulation through carefully supervised access to the outstanding facilities and grounds of the greater school and through their interaction with the older students.
The Foundation Stage Curriculum is designed to be flexible in order to meet the varying needs of our very young children. It values and recognises parents as children's first and most enduring educators and actively encourages partnership between home and school.
Play is important in fostering and developing young children's learning and it underpins the delivery of the EYFS. It is through play that children develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally. Most children play spontaneously, but some children need adult support. In the Foundation Stage, the development of social and communication skills is vitally important, being nurtured through purposeful, structured and spontaneous play.
Years 1 and 2:
Year 1 and Year 2 are known collectively as Key Stage 1 in accord with the English National Curriculum terminology. At Bangkok Patana School the curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that it is relevant to the backgrounds and experiences of our international student body. The National Curriculum from England provides the basis for our formal curriculum at Key Stage 1, which is modified and extended to give a broad and balanced programme for all our students. Extra curricular activities extend the opportunities for students even further.
The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all students in each Year group. Work is suitably differentiated to ensure that it is appropriately delivered to students of all abilities. This is a strong feature of the National Curriculum.
Years 3 to 6:
In keeping with the English National Curriculum terminology, Years 3 to 6 are known as Key Stage 2. The curriculum builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in Key Stage 1, and adds further challenges as the children move through the Key Stage.
Further emphasis is placed on problem solving and creative thinking in order that students become more independent in their learning. Our Modern Foreign Language programme starts in Year 3 and in Year 4 students select one of six languages to study up to Secondary School.
Secondary School:
The Secondary School at Bangkok Patana School is an enthusiastic and energetic environment with a diversity of choices aimed at fulfilling the school’s mission of providing a well-rounded education. We place an emphasis on academic rigour and a pastoral system which offers strong support and encourages students to do their best, to meet challenges and develop independence.
Years 7, 8 and 9:
Students enter the Secondary School from the age of 11 and in Years 7, 8 and 9 - collectively referred to as Key Stage 3 - follow a course of study which provides a broad and balanced range of learning experiences. The content of the National Curriculum is modified to take account of our position in South East Asia, but the basic skills and concepts remain the same.
Years 10 and 11:
Students in Years 10 and 11 follow a two-year programme leading to the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or its international equivalent, the IGCSE. The subjects available to students Key Stage 4 students have been selected with the intention of providing a broad and balanced curriculum, which provides an excellent foundation for the Senior Studies progamme.
Years 12 and 13:
In Senior Studies, Years 12 and 13, students follow the International Baccalaureate programme. This course of study offers students the opportunity to study the highly acclaimed IB Diploma Programme or individual IB certificates which are widely recognised throughout the world as an entrance qualification for universities and colleges of higher education.
The school day runs from 7.40am until 2.30pm and is divided into eight periods of 40 minutes, with two break times for eating or recreation. Students meet with their tutors twice each day at morning and afternoon registration. The Extra Curricular Activities programme operates Monday to Friday after school.
