The Selwyn School:
The Selwyn College Preparatory School, located in Denton (40 miles north-west of Dallas) in Denton County, Texas, is an independent, co-educational day school offering grades PK-12. Occupying a 90-acre campus and drawing students from more than 29 North Texas communities, the Selwyn School offers a rigorous academic program that challenges students. The Selwyn School is committed to providing an outstanding academic program for students aged 13 months through to 12th grade.
* Preschool Program:
The Preschool, 13 months to Pre-K, embodies a developmental approach to learning. We teach the mastery of academic skills, as well as the ability to think critically, creatively and independently. Attention is given to balancing individual work activities with group activities. Emphasis is placed on respect and appreciation of each individual's contribution.
The goal of the Preschool is to provide an opportunity for the child to develop independence, self-awareness, self-discipline, compassion for others, and a love of learning, as well as the mastery of academic skills.
* Lower School Program:
Selwyn's Lower School, Kindergarten through 5th grade, introduces and develops the fundamental building blocks of learning: listening, reading, writing, and arithmetic. To provide a basis for our college preparatory curriculum, kindergarten though fifth grades uses a combination of self-discovery and guided practice in an enriched academic instructional program of language arts, math, science and social studies.
The curriculum follows state and national standards to ensure that all students are being challenged and that they are given the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.
* Middle School Program:
Middle School students in grades six through eight refine their academic skills while focusing on a high school preparatory curriculum. Recognizing the uniqueness of early adolescent students, the middle school develops the whole child. We consider the academic or intellectual progress of our students as well as the physical, emotional, and social development which occurs during this time.
* Upper School Program:
The Upper School, grades nine through twelve, prepares students to be competitive candidates for admission to the nation's highest universities. Graduates currently are attending Brandeis, Bates, and American University.
