St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School is a private, coeducational, episcopal, boarding and day college preparatory school serving students in Grades 6-12. We are located in Sewanee, Franklin County, southern Tennessee, just off I-24 between Nashville and Chattanooga. St. Andrew's-Sewanee School encourages students to develop their leadership potential by taking on roles of increasing responsibility throughout their school years. SAS prepares students for the demands of college through a rigorous academic program with college prep and AP courses focusing on critical thinking and advanced writing as well as an award winning arts program.
The St. Andrew's-Sewanee School mission is:
- to provide superior preparation for college;
- to be an inclusive Christian community in which the Episcopal heritage is central;
- to bring all members of the community to a richer spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and aesthetic awareness so that they might lead lives of honor and loving service to God and to others;
- to provide educational opportunities for those students for whom such experiences might not otherwise be available.
Accreditation:
SAS is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Leadership:
Leadership skills are developed through active organizations such as Blue & Gold Guides (admissions tour guides), Proctors, Honor Council, Student Vestry and Athletics. Students are encouraged to initiate their own organizations such as the environmental organization ECO SAS. Students live in renovated rooms and every student is part of a small St. Andrew’s-Sewanee family. Learning and discovery exceed the bounds of the school day and week. St. Andrew's-Sewanee is a community bound together by respect for one another and delight in knowledge. It's a place we think you'll like to call your second home.
Houses:
All boarders live in a house in which houseparents and a “family” of 12-15 students create a second home. Most houseparents are faculty members. The houses include homey touches like porches, fireplaces, dogs, and faculty children longing to adopt big brothers and sisters.
The Student Activities Committee, composed of students and faculty members, plans a variety of activities throughout the year including dances, sporting events and movies; trips to museums, malls, and restaurants in Nashville and Chattanooga; and caving, canoeing and camping trips.
Mountain biking is popular on school trails and on the hundreds of miles of nearby trails. Transportation is provided into Sewanee, where students may shop and attend movies, performances and lectures. Both boarding and day students may participate in the weekend activities.
At St. Andrew's-Sewanee School, our international students are important members of our community. No matter whether SAS students are from around the corner or around the globe, they quickly become immersed in the life of the school - its academics, its extracurricular opportunities, and its social connections.
Experience shows that students who are making good grades and are actively involved in school life in their native country have the academic background and motivation to perform well at SAS. We welcome students with these qualities to apply to St. Andrew’s-Sewanee School whether they wish to graduate from our school or enjoy a one-year enrichment experience.
