The Knowledge Workshop, Cape Town:
The Knowledge Workshop is an international language and skills centre based in the vibey suburb of Observatory, Cape Town in South Africa. Whether you are looking to improve your English ability, gain access to university or become TEFL qualified to teach English and travel, we will exceed your expectations. Aimed at the corporate market, we have pioneered a program addressing the common challenges and problem areas faced by South Africans who speak English as a Second Language.
English language courses for everyone! We offer the highest standard of General and Business English courses from beginner up to advanced level (EFL and ESL).
Our lessons offer 'targeted learning’ in small groups with lots of personal attention from dynamic facilitators. Language acquisition is enhanced and made fun through field trips and social gatherings. Our most popular courses are: General English and TOEFL preparation.
We have also pioneered a program that directly addresses the communication challenges faced by South Africans, for whom English is not a mother-tongue. This cost-effective programme holistically trains linguistic and communication skills, addressing the problem areas faced by many South Africans.
We offer a personalised, home-based tuition service aimed at primary and high school students who need extra assistance with their studies, or who wish to supplement their learning to gain an advantage.
Our locally based, qualified tutors have been chosen for their ability and track record, offering a monitored, feedback driven study assitance service. Our tutors are experienced, friendly and flexible. We offer tuition in most subjects, and can schedule lessons at times convenient to you, either in your home or in one of our classrooms.
We provide ongoing feedback to the parent, progress is monitored and where necessary we engage with the learner's subject teachers to ensure swift progress.

“Dear Marian and Paul, I just wanted to say hello from Brazil! I’m good - but kind of missing Cape Town! I really had the best time of my life. I enjoyed South Africa so much. It’s not something that you can describe, it’s just something that you feel. In Brazilian we say “saudade”, it’s when you miss something in a such strong way. Everything was perfect. The people are amazing and everything is so magic! If there’s something that impressed me much more than anything else, is that every day you learn something new! The time at school, helped me so much. I’m glad that my dad chose your school for me. It was perfect. You were my family for the period that I spent in"
Joana Behnke – Italian and Portuguese speaking EFL student, 2010 (Brazil)
"My time at The Knowledge Workshop was a wonderful and memorable experience because of the professional and dedicated staff, the pragmatism of the teaching methods and the supportive environment in which the learning takes place.... not to mention the social gatherings!"
Blaise Mutombo - EFL student (Democratic Republic of Congo)
“For me, 2010 has surely been a very joyful year at The Knowledge Workshop. I really enjoyed being part of the adventure for a few months, making new friends while having great English lessons. TKW really understand how to make fast progress with their students and they create a special atmosphere so that everyone feels at home. Thanks!”
Geoffrey Sella – French speaking EFL student 2010 (France - son of Philippe Sella, the famous French Rugby player)
When I first arrived in Cape Town, I felt intimidated when having conversations in English. After spending 3 months studying general English at The Knowledge Workshop, I started to feel more confident and could communicate more easily than before. I went on to pass the TOEFL exam and am now studying at UCT. I really enjoyed every moment I spent at TKW, especially the interesting break time conversations and the School outings. I really benefited from the whole experience and miss my fellow students now that I have moved on. Thanks for everything.
Willy (Democratic Republic of Congo) – French speaking EFL student

I was fortunate enough to attend the TEFL course offered by the Knowledge Workshop. As a 24 year old with absolutely no teaching experience, I was not to sure what I was getting myself into. With hindsight, it was one of the best decisions I have made. Marian is a fantastic teacher and she channelled her energy, enthusiasm and passion into the course, to make it one of the most informative and enjoyable educational experiences that I have ever had. I have no doubt that I am the teacher that I am today solely because of the excellence offered by the Knowledge Workshop.
Simon Cullen – TEFL
