International IB School in Rome

Contact Our School

Rome International School:
Located in the heart of Rome, Lazio region in central-western Italy, Rome International School is a private international school providing an international education for children in nursery to grade 13. RIS has chosen to link with what we believe is the most prestigious of all educational systems, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). With this is mind we offer the early, primary, middle years and International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Students may still follow the two year British National Curriculum GCSE course before taking the IB Diploma program.

Early Years Program:
The Early Years Department at Rome International School is made up of 3 sections, two to three year olds in our nursery sections, three year olds in our kindergarten section and four year olds in our transition section waiting to join elementary school.

In the Early Years department the children are encouraged to think for themselves, to innovate, to create and to seek and solve problems. They are unique individuals, eager to make sense of the world, to develop relationships with others and to extend their skills. All children bring creative potential to their learning and we believe that it is important to build from this. The English language is the medium through which we teach all subjects. It is our language of instruction.

Elementary School with Primary Years Program:

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a transdisciplinary programme of international education designed to foster the development of the whole child. The PYP draws on research and bePhoto of International IB School in Romest practice from a range of national systems with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.

The most significant and distinctive feature of the IB Primary Years Programme is the six transdisciplinary themes:

- Who we are, where we are in place and time, how we express ourselves, how the world works, how we organize ourselves and sharing the planet

These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important to, all of us. The programme offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas, and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows students to "step up" beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.

In addition to this children learn to appreciate languages with oral, reading and writing skills as well as basic mathematics.

Middle School with Middle Years Program:

First language English for ages 11 to 14 (Grades 7 to 9). Italian taught to Licenza media or as a foreign language (IFL). French and Spanish offered as third languages. This is a five year course, followed in Grades 7 to 11 (normally 11 to 16 years of age), devised as a preparation for the IB Diploma.

MYP students enjoy a broad, balanced and interesting curriculum that encourages them to develop skills which enable them to become lifelong learners. The MYP is an innovative and carefully considered curriculum model, which places the student at the centre of the learning process. The Subject Areas: There are eight subject areas, some of which may require more than one subject to be taught.

The MYP subject areas are: Arts, Humanities, Language A, Language B, Mathematics, Physical Education, Sciences and Technology.

High School with GCSE and IB Programs:

The Bilingual Montessori School of Milan
Courses / Programs
The Bilingual Montessori School of Milan is a preschool for children ages three to six years, located close to the city centre of Milan, Italy. We provide bilingual education to our students: In both classrooms, a team of two teachers, one an Italian speaker and the other an English speaker, collaborate using a bilingual approach to education.

The two teachers take turns with the childrens' activities, while communicating in their native tongues. The bilingual approach is particularly appropriate for a Montessori classroom, where teachers typically emphasize individualized interaction with the students.

The preschool includes two multi-age bilingual Montessori classrooms. The classrooms are designed to provide an accessible, safe and inviting environment for each child. The furniture is child-sized, allowing easy access to a wide range of carefully selected activities around the room. Each child chooses her or his activities freely, feeling safe in the knowledge that the teacher is always nearby and ready to support their efforts.
