Art of Swimming:
Art of Swimming has been servicing the Hampton Long Island Area, NY, since 1981, and was originally known as Vicki's Aquatots. We are a full service back yard swim school offering swimming lessons, life guarding, CPR, first aid and scuba training. We teach swimming to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, terrified non-swimmers of all ages and adults, both young & old alike. We use all kinds of props to make learning fun. We believe in a gentle approach to swimming instruction. Our instructors are enthusiastic, energetic, and fun.
Swimming Classes:
We provide swimming lessons for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, terrified non-swimmers of all ages, and adults, young & old alike. We offer high quality swimming lessons at your home pool with highly qualified, trained and insured instructors. With individual / private swimming lessons, the instructor is able to work, very precisely on the beginning skills, stroke development, and overcoming fears. Private lessons focus on the particular strengths and weaknesses of an individual. This gives the student an opportunity to develop trust with the instructor much faster.
We also offer life guarding, CPR, first aid, and scuba training. We provide our own progression and certifications, as well as the 3 levels of the Red Cross Preschool Program, the 6 levels of the Red Cross Learn to Swim Program, Lifeguarding, CPR / AED, First Aid, Snorkeling, Skin Diving, Scuba, and underwater photography.

Curriculum & Techniques:
We incorporate water education, science, and preschool skills such as music, counting, shapes, colors, and ABC's into our toddler and preschool lessons. Toys and imaginative play is also utilized at this level. We use a special incentive that entices young children into doing things they would not otherwise do which shortens the learning process.
The lesson is very child centered. As the child becomes interested in something, we take off on it towards a goal that we can accomplish. As the child is interested in what we are doing, they are very involved in the learning process. The stage is set through many props to entice a child to do what we want them to do. They do not even realize they are learning to swim in the beginning.
As the student progresses into the higher-level skills, we continue to use fun to make the learning process more interesting. Each stroke is taught with made-up games to help the child to understand how to move through the water. Positioning is of the utmost importance. Without proper body position, a child will learn to struggle through the water.
Upper Levels: In the upper levels, focus is on the best stroke possible. We believe that even if a child does not go onto a swim team, they should learn the same techniques so they swim with ease, confidence, and strength. We want to develop strong swimmers that are comfortable in any type of water situation. The best way to do this is to have the best stroke from the beginning. Strong swimmers are safe swimmers. They then can go on to other water sports such as surfing, snorkeling, skin diving, scuba diving, life guarding, and sailing
Additional Programs: At the age of eight, students may be given the opportunity to earn their PADI snorkeling or skin diving certificate. They may also participate in the PADI Bubble Maker program. This is a program where a child gets to try out scuba in their own home pool. At the age of 10, they can get their certification for scuba from PADI. Students may also progress through Basic Water Rescue and Lifeguarding using the course material set forth by the American Red Cross.
