Located in Temple Bar in Dublin city centre, The Sound Training College (STC) offers a wide range of full and part-time Music Technology Diploma & Certificate training courses. We provide day, evening and weekend courses covering all aspects of Music Technology, Sound Engineering, Recording, Live Sound, and other fields of study. Since 1986, our courses and examinations in Music Production and Sound Engineering have effectively set standards for training within the music industry in Ireland.
Full & Part-Time Certificate & Diploma Courses:
Sound Engineering and Music Technology (Full-Time)
Duration: 36 Weeks (Monday - Friday)
Accreditation: City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Multitrack Recording and Composition & STC Diploma in Sound Engineering and Music Technology
The aim of this course is to provide the student with a comprehensive introduction to the following areas: - Sound Engineering Practices
- Music Theory
- Music Production
- Protools Systems, Reason and Sound Forge
- Audio Theory and Principles
- Music Technology
- Composition
- Production Techniques
- Sound Design
- Remix Techniques
- Microphone Technologies and Techniques
Students participating in this course will be expected to achieve the following outcomes:
1) Develop a number of complex musical productions using computer-based technologies.
2) Participate in at least 4 professional client-based recording studio projects during term.
3) Demonstrate a high level of underpinning knowledge
4) Understand the music business infrastructure (Sectors, Roles, Responsibilities etc.)
5) Participate in a number of live music events (performance, promotion or technical role)
6) Understand the role of audio in various multi-media settings
7) Develop a professional acumen through experience-based projects
8) Develop entrepreneurial skills (freelance, publishing, recording contracts etc.)
Sound and Music Technology (Part-Time)
Duration: 34 Weeks (2 evenings a week)
Accreditation: Year 1: Sound Training College – Certificate in Sound Engineering and Music Technology & City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Multitrack Recording and Composition.
Year 2: Sound Training College – Diploma in Advanced Sound Engineering and Music Technology & City and Guilds Level 3 diploma in Sound Engineering.
The Sound Training College has developed a new part-time sound and music technology course in conjuction with leading recording studios and industry professsionals. The course focuses on all aspects of music producion and covers an intense range of topics.
The aim of the course is to explore music production and sound engineering concepts without the constraints of academic abstractions.
It is designed to uncover novice to advanced concepts within a creative environment. The programme is based on continuous assessment centred on "hands on" projects.
Advanced Sound and Music Technology (Full-time)
Duration: 34 Weeks (4 days per week) Accreditation: City and Guilds level 3 Diploma in Sound Engineering and Music Technology, STC Diploma in Advanced Music Production
This course will give students who already have a background in sound engineering / music technology, an opportunity to develop a broad skill-set that incorporates concepts in music and media production.
The syllabus is divided into the following areas:
- Unrivalled studio access and development opportunities
- Analogue Recording - NEVE / SSL Consoles
- Digital Recording - Protools HD Accel 3 - Procontrol and Control 24
- Web development / DV Video Pre/Post Production / Networks / DVD Authoring - Interactive Media
- Live Sound Reinforcement 2kW - 12kW systems
- Advanced Music Technology / Advanced Music Theory
- Music Business Infrastructure
Live Sound, Lighting and Stage Production (Full-Time)
Duration: 34 Weeks (4 days per week)
Accreditation: City + Guilds 7503 Certificate Level 3 & STC Diploma in Live Sound and Stage Production
This course is designed to give students the necessary expertise, through hands-on experienceStudents participating in this programme will also be introduced to studio recording techniques, digital audio editing, music theory and music technology.
Electronic Music ProductionDuration – 15 Weeks
Accreditation: Sound Training College Certificate.
Modern electronic music production places new technical demands on the modern composer.
This course, designed by STC for the modern musician, introduces the theories and practical implementations of the techniques that underpin electronic music production.
The course is delivered using the following music software applications:
- Logic Audio
- Reason
- Various Offline Audio processing applications
