Carousel School:
Carousel School is a non-public school in Southwest LA providing preschool, elementary school through high school programs for children with special needs or disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s syndrome, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and communication disorders. We also provide an Adult Day Program (ADP) for adults 18-55. Carousel School is located at 7899 La Tijera Blvd. in Southwest LA, just off the Interstate 405 (San Diego Freeway), close to Ladera Heights, Inglewood and Los Angeles International Airport.

Early Intervention (EI) Program (Birth - 3 years):

Children from birth through 3 years old who have a diagnosed disability or special need, or who are at risk of developmental delays, may receive specialized programming. Through Carousel’s Early Intervention Program, children with special needs may participate in an integrated half-day preschool program with typically-developing peers, while also receiving the additional therapeutic support services they need.

Carousel Preschool and Infant Center has been in operation since 1984 and provides early childhood education and care for the Los Angeles airport local community. Carousel serves children from 1 mo through 5 years old in a nurturing, stimulating, and family-centered environment, where the cultures and special needs of children and families are embraced and supported.

Non-Public School Educational Program (Middle School & High School Students):

Carousel middle school and high school students participate in weekly Community Based Instruction (CBI) trips, which target the development of functional skills in natural, non-school based environments, such as the post office, grocery store, bakery, and police and fire stations. Prior to going out into the community, teachers and staff prepare the students for what they will do and how they should act. Skills learned in the classroom are generalized and taught in the community. These skills, practiced over time, will give our students the confidence to participate in community events and socialize in new and unfamiliar environments.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program:

Carousel School offers students a specialized day class appropriate to meet their needs in the areas of academics (either general education or alternate curriculum), communication and technology, and social/emotional and behavioral needs. Students will receive individualized attention and support from their credentialed teachers, lead instructional assistants, and behavioral aides.

Carousel staff addresses students’ behaviors and re-shapes cognitive and sensory interventions to best facilitate students’ development. With the support of our therapists, educators, classroom staff, and parents, we develop appropriate expectations and provide consistent and positive reinforcements that are necessary to help our students succeed.

After-School Program at Salvin:

2:00 pm – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Carousel School also offers extended Camp hours at Salvin, from 8:00am – 4:00pm, during Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break.

In 2010, Carousel School expanded its services to include an Adult Day Program that will provide clients with opportunities to actively engage in a high-quality program and services that will teach them the skills necessary to optimize their quality of life and to be connected with their local community. Adults with special needs will participate in an integrated full-day program dedicated to helping them become active participants of their communities.
