Professional Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (Pre Master- Postgraduate):
This level is the academic equivalent to Year 3 of a UK university honours degree. It is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 6.
Duration: 12 Months (Minimum)
Entry:
* Age - 19 and over and
* a pass in BCS Diploma stage or
* a related qualification accepted by BCS
By beginning the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT level course BCS assumes knowledge of the Certificate in IT and appropriate Diploma in IT level modules (or exemption) and focuses on the following:
* Advanced Database Management Systems
* Management Information Systems
* Software Engineering 2
* Computer Services Management
* Distributed and Parallel Systems (April only)
* Knowledge Based Systems (April only)
* Network Information Systems (April only)
* Programming Paradigms (April only)
* Realising the User Interface (April only)
* System Design Methods (April only)
* Web Engineering (April only)
BCS recommends a minimum of 250 hours study per module and the course culminates in a 3 hour written exam focusing on four of the above modules of your choice. Please be aware that practical experience is required to answer some parts of the exam completion of the Professional Graduate Diploma Examinations level means you are eligible to apply for BCS Membership if you have 2 years experience as an IT professional.
BSC (Hons) Information and Communication Technology (Top Up):
As the world moves further into a knowledge economy, the demand and need for higher-level qualifications increases. So, if you’ve previously studied computing-related subjects, this course gives you the opportunity to top-up to an honours degree in one year.
This flexible ‘top-up’ route to a degree is for students who have successfully completed a higher education Level 2 qualification in a computing-related area. Any of the following, passed at a good standard, could provide a suitable basis:
• Diploma in Higher Education (Computing)
• Higher National Diploma in Business Information Technology (EDEXCEL)
• Foundation Degree (Computing)
• Other British or international equivalent in Computing
You will build upon the skills you’ve already developed and select appropriate modules from a wide range, adding to specialist topics you have previously studied. You will be able to focus your programme in software engineering, information systems, database technology, multimedia, games design, network computing, or business information systems.

Level 1: HNC in Business Information Technology (Awarded by EDEXCEL)
Level 2: HND in Business Information Technology (AWARDED by EDEXCEL)
Level 3 Top-up: BA (Hons) Information and Communication Technology (Studies at and Awarded by the University of Gloucestershire)
Diploma in Information Technology:
This is the Diploma level of BCS Professional Examinations. This level is the academic equivalent to Year 2 of a UK university honours degree and is recognised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) as Level 5.

* Systems Design (April only)
* Principles of User Interface Design (April only)
BCS recommends a minimum of 225 hours study per module. The course culminates in a 2 hour written exam focusing on the one core module and another 2 hour written exam allowing you to focus on three optional modules of your choice. Completion of the Diploma Examinations level means you are eligible to apply for BCS Membership if you have 3 years' experience as an IT professional.
